I am applying for WC this Dec/Jan for fall 2014 Rn program. I am going to re-take my teas this month to hopefully improve my score. If I get in I will be driving from Hurst. Hopefully it won't be too bad of a drive.
Aroww33, I have the classes to go straight for my BSN and have applied 2 times to UTA and TWU. I have a 3.7 and you basically have to have a 3.9 or 4.0 to get into these schools. TWU had 800 applicants and 200 spots between Houston and Dallas. If you have a 4.0 gpa I would recommend going straight for your BSN. I have already repeated a few classes to raise my GPA to the 3.7. I have been going to school for 9 years now and am just ready to get in somewhere. My sciences will be expiring also after this application period. I feel like my only chance is to get in now and then immediately do the online bridge to the BSN program. There so many others in the same shoes as me and nursing school is just so difficult to get into with all the applicants and not enough spots in the nursing programs around here. WC has partnerships with other schools for the BSN bridge and so I think that is why they have extra points for the BSN classes. All I can say is this has been a long journey. Good luck!
I feel your frustration. I have a 3.8 gpa but because my husband is in the Air Force and TX will be our 6th base in the last 7 years I have classes from 5 other colleges and not all are counting towards Weatherford. I have 73 credit hours with nothing to show for it. I only have 31 points. It's very frustrating. I hope the best for everyone.
RockellPoshell, I emailed KL today and asked if my 38 points looked ok. She said it looks good right now, but she will be getting more apps in this week and it could change. She said with my points if I don't have enough to get in I should be at the top of alternates and that they use a lot of alternates. She also said since I am applying to both Weatherford and Wise County that I have a good chance since Wise county has fewer apps and that it takes lower points to get into Wise County. So I am very hopefull. I think you have a great chance of getting in too. Did you apply to both campuses also? I don't want to drive to Wise County but I will if I have to.
NayNay69, I only applied at Wise County. I live in and have attended all of my classes at Wise County. I'm cautiously optimistic. Karen said the bulk of the applications come in this week so that's got me nervous. And I have also heard that being put on the alternate list is still very promising, alternates get called in at the last minute pretty often from what I've been told. But it would be lovely to just get in. Most people I've spoken with are somewhere in the 35-40 range, some without TEAS scores. I've spoken to several who were in the upper 20's as well. But I know that a lot of applicants are not current WCWC students, so I'm not sure where the minimum will land. I hope I'm in!! I'm hoping the best for everyone!
First of all, KUDOS to everyone who's posted so far! I'm duly impressed with all the points and ambition!! I know members of this website are already ahead of the curb and everyone should be super psyched about their achievement -which leads me to wonder something... My points are only in the 20s and, to be honest, I'm a little disappointed with the way this program does things. Not to be a naysayer but: I have a 4.0, have taken all the pre-reqs for the program (plus a few BSN classes), scored pretty well on my TEAS, but unfortunately, none of this factors in unless my points tie with another student. I guess my frustration comes from recently learning of multiple C average students who've taken a bunch of classes and are applying this fall because they have a high number of points. Having worked in the ER and Anesthesia Dept for the past 5 years, it's kind of disappointing that we don't have an opportunity to interview or provide letters of recommendation. It's one thing for students with multiple BSN classes to have higher points, it's quite another for poorly performing students to apply and have a greater number of points by way of quantity over quality. I don't really think the latter is fair for those of us who are going to school with the sole intention of getting into nursing. Shouldn't GPA or reasons for wanting to enter the nursing field factor in somewhere to help weed some of these students going "what the heck, I have the points for the ADN" out? Maybe I'm in la-la land.I'm starting to think it would be wisest (if passed over this fall) to just transfer to a straight-BSN track. Are any of you all considering this route as well?
Call me crazy but I thought a lot of the reason to pursue a ADN was to get into nursing quickly (and then transition to BSN, if desired) but it seems, by having all these pre-reqs, it's almost smarter to go ahead and take a few more BSN classes this fall (if not accepted) and just apply to a BSN program in the spring -bypassing ADN altogether. Maybe I'm just trying to prepare for the worst (which I tend to do) but I'm eager for some feedback to see if I'm off-base in thinking this is a wise alternative plan? Maybe I'm preparing for the worst and having a moment of negativity --any thoughts?
I can understand your disappointment. Nursing school is very hard to get into....period. I also have 4 years of ICU experience but it won't help me either. I think you would be in the 30's, possibly 40's as far as your points, if you had a big portion of your BSN track classes complete. I believe every school is going more toward the BSN track and wanting their applicants to have those classes completed before applying. Unfortunately, just like LVN's, ADN will soon fade out and the only way to get into nursing school will for your BSN. I'm sure that will be years down the road but, that is where all schools are eventually heading. Just like at most hospitals, they want nurses with a BSN.
I wouldn't give up! I think if you complete all your BSN courses or at least most you will have a good chance of getting in. At that time yes I would apply for your BSN and ADN. That would open up your chances of getting selected. If nursing is your dream and it's something you really want then go for it!!
Also I would stop listening to what others are telling you. When you have a program that is competitive rumors get started. Just keep your eye on the price! You will get in when it's your time. Good luck to you and keep up the great work you are doing!!! All your A's and hard work WILL pay off :)
I finally took my TEAS again today and passed! Woo-hoo! I ended up with a 90.5 in Reading, 73.3 in Math, 66.7 in Science. & an 80 in English & Language. My AITS was 77.3. I will go Thursday to turn in my stuff to KL and report back on what the minimums appear to be to her on that day. I think this puts me at 41 points total. I feel completely worn out. Thank God it done!

Okay, I just signed up and got on here to obsess!! I turned in my application on Friday and submitted my final TEAS scores. In total I have 37 points and now all I can do is wait and it is just killing me!! I'm hoping, praying, crossing everything that I get in! I applied to WCWC. I asked Karen if she thinks I have a fighting chance and she said "I think so, it's an educated guess, but I think you probably do"........so........now I wait!! I am thankful that it is "only" 6 weeks but it may be the longest 6 weeks of my life!! Will we just get a letter in the mail or is in email form? That's probably a silly question. Since this is the first admission using this point system, I am just nervous because we kind of have no way to gauge just where the minimum will be and I just think I will have a nervous breakdown if I miss it by 1/2 points. I'm already obsessing over "I wish I had studied more for the Science part of the TEAS" or "I should have done this or that class instead of blah, blah, blah......." Good luck to everyone testing and doing applications this week!! And here's to hoping April comes very, very quickly!!
