weather, people, and bugs

Hello nurses (and nurses to be),

I will be finishing up my nursing degree in May, and REALLY want a fresh start. I am a divorced mom of two children, and proudly a cancer survivor! I am from Chicago, but really want to move! Though I love Chicago I am sick of the winters, and want to be in a smaller city, safer city.

I was wondering if anyone can give me insight to your area. Are people friendly? Is it easy being single, and not knowing anyone??? Plus's and minuses to the area? A mostly BUGS! I lived in florida for a few years and the palmedo bugs were horrible!!!!

And most important...the hospitals, new grad friendly, good healthcare systems?

Thank you so much for your input!!!!! :yeah:

Oregon is a beautiful state no bugs, rarely get snow in the winter, very mild climate. Plus the mountains surrounding you, this is a fabulous place to live. People are very friendly as well. Not sure on the nursing or how their new grad programs are.

I also live in Illinois. Have you considered moving further south to Champaign-Urbana, Bloomington or Peoria? Those are nice places. They are nice size cities without the huge population. Champaign is my favorite city. I love to go there to shop and eat. If you have kids, their schools are wonderful. My best friend and my brother-in-law both reside in Champaign. My mother-in-law lives in Peoria and she seems to like it. The best thing for you to do is visit places. Other peoples thoughts and opinions of places may not be what you want. Good luck

I love New Orleans! The people are amazing, the weather is balmy most of the year (depending on who you talk to, my Seattle-area-born-and-raised wife, or me), and the job market is wide open.

...then there are the cockroaches

...and the rats

...in my attic.
