I have been browsing this forum for a while and I don't seem to find many people from CT. WHere are you guys. I would love to see how CT. How the hospitals are and how are the nurses there. Please don't be shy sign in.

hi everybody, I am a nursing student at NCC. just got my 8 books for the first semester and boy am I scared, how am I going to read it all?

some info about me:

--39 years old

--two children

--graduating May'09

--scared, very scared.

would love to hear from other people who go to NCC. how is the place? what clinicals did you do? how does it work? I know that there are 5 clinicals, but what is done when?

hello norwalk. ncc's got a good reputation to keep so things are rather UNeasy--lectures on top of another, instructors that can be mean as hell on floor and those endless nursing plans, assignments... just keep your sights clear of these "distractions" and learn as best as you can. getting into the program is a great achievement in itself, i congratulate you. it means you have the potential to succeed in this field so believe it!!!! it's OK that you feel scared. it keeps you grounded and NOT fall into the trap of complacency. keep the faith.

in the first semester, i believe you start with lab instructors in class. then you proceed to a nursing facility afterwhich each group is assigned to a hospital:stamford, greenwich or norwalk. danbury, too, for selected terms, i think. in clinicals, you begin the day with a pre-conference with the instructor handing your patient assignments (if they've not given it the day before), checking your homework (pathophysiology and nursing care plans) and/or med cards. it may take as little as 5 minutes then you're off to see your rn for reporting. you're expected to only do basic stuff at first like assist patient with self-care. (things get more complicated as you are introduced to more skills...) around noontime, you meet as a group again with your instructor for post-conference. this is the time you discuss your day, any problems or issues and learning experiences. you discuss some more about your homework and after 20-30 minutes, time's up.

I am starting at BHSN evening program this september 4th, class of 2009!!! :balloons:

Here's some things about me........married w/2 children, both girls, one is 3 1/2 yrs. old and my youngest just turned 1 on July 31. I am scared to death to start school!!! I just want to start and get going!

I'm from CT! i'm just living in NY for right now. I'm a very newly certified nurses aid. I got my first job at a hospital today and i'm starting in 2 weeks. I'm taking pre-reqs to get into nursing school and since I already have my B.A. from UCONN I was thinking i'd do the ASN at Norwalk or Capitol Comm. College and later a bridge program to get my masters. BUT Capitol is already full for 2008! My mom is a nurse so i've asked her a million questions over the last 9 months about this stuff and today I found this site so hopefully I can stop harassing her.

Capitol has an enormous waiting list indeed. I would still apply to as many places you can. If you are interested in the private route, although more expensive, you can also try Goodwin College in East Hartford.

anyone here in ct try the excelsior program for lpn to rn or the St vincents college assoc degree. any info about these programs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
