OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?
I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.
And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need?
Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!
Colleen, thanks for asking! I feel like we're doing ok. My test scores have been pretty good. I'm STILL nervous as heck at clinicals, although we went to NIMC this week and I like it SOOO much more than South Street (not that South Street was horrible or anything). I'm already freaking out a little bit about the stupid PE's! I'm so scared of a stupid mistake that'll fail me.
I just regret not taking an extra day to have for studying (as far as asking my mother in law to watch the kids). I will be doing that next semester, or if she can't handle another day, I'll have to pay for daycare. It'll be worth it. My daughter used to go to bed early (7pm), but lately it's been close to 8:30p, so I'm up from 6:30am to 8:30pm with the kids and then trying to fit in loads of reading before I get to bed! It's exhausting! Ok, sorry, that was my shameless vent for the day.
Can I ask how 3rd semester is going for you? Anything exciting?
Third semester is a blast, but VERY different. On the one hand, I feel much more "nurse-like" in general. On the other hand there's lots and LOTS of stuff to know. But it is all starting to come together, which is very cool. In 3rd semester it's more about WHY things are the way they are, and what other factors can influence what's going on with your patient. I keep telling people it's like we are taking everything we've learned so far, and then figuring out how to connect the dots. Fun!
If you want any help with PE practice, let me know. Last semester (for our 2nd PE) a group of about 7 of us got together at my house to go over what to expect with a friend of mine that is a level ahead of me. It was really helpful. Of course no one could tell you the exact scenarios or whatever, but it helps to prepare. I'd be happy to meet with you (and a few of your friends if you'd like). Just let me know.
Last semester Janet and the other 1st semester instructors had my friend Heather and I do a PE Demo for their classes, which I think helped a lot of them feel more comfortable. I think it's good to see how it all works, you know? They haven't asked us yet to do it again, but maybe they have someone else in mind to do it this time.
Anyhow, keep in touch and hang in there! You're now halfway through your first semester!!! Only 3.5 more to go!
hey everyone! i'm new to all this :wink2: im currently a senior at loyola university chicago studying psychology (since the nursing program here is so DIFFICULT to transfer into), im graduating this december and hoping to get into CLC's nursing program for January 2010. i've already taken the nln and scored an 88 composite percentile on my first try... im taking it once more before the screening deadline in hopes to get my score into the mid 90s.
any tips/suggestions/advice/input for improving my score and on the program itself?
after 4years of undergrad schooling... i am STARVING to learn nursing material!!!
THANKS!!
I agree with Diedra. The NLN Study Guide was a big help to me. And don't just go right to the part about the questions. Actually read the introduction and "how to take the test" part because there is valuable info there.
Where are your strenths/weaknesses? It had been quite a while since I did a lot of the algebra type stuff, so I went online and found a great site that took me through basic algebra. Some people I know have struggled with the vocab part, and they've found ways to break down the words into stuff they know.
Good luck and keep us posted how you do!
I agree. I got a Cliff's notes study guide (I think at Barnes and Noble) and it helped tons. There are a lot of different options of books. I had issues with the vocab (I honestly think it's sooo dumb!), but the math and such I did well with. Do and redo the practice q's!!! They really help you.
Good Luck!
thanks CLC172!!!what was your NLN score at your time of acceptance (if you don't mind sharing)? =)
I don't mind! Mine was on the low side, but I got in on the first try. 89 (I thought it was 91 because that was my overall score, when compared with BSN, ADN and diploma, but they only looked at the overall number for ADN). Good luck!
