OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?
I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.
And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need?
Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!
The color doesn't matter. I have green tubing and a VW Thing on mine. Colleen has a moon, and I can't remember what Heather has on hers. Pick one you like!
Ummmm... no Diedra... I think you need new glasses or something. Mine is a SUN, not a moon. Sheesh! My peds head is a cute little frog! Love it!
Thanks for the great advice!!! I hoped we'd have class those days, so that is exciting to hear.
So, I take it there isn't anywhere to keep a purse or coat during clinicals?
Did anyone take microbiology during the summer session. I'm just wondering how many days/week it is during the summer. I'm so anal..I need to plan my whole year, lol.
Oh my gosh Dawn - sounds like you'd fit in just fine with our group! We are all anal planners!
I took Micro 2 summers ago with D Horne. She was good, quirky but good. Diedra took it with her this past summer also. I cant' remember if it was 3 or 4 days per week.
Usually in clinicals you just dump your coat off in a break room type of place. It's not locked, so we didn't want to leave keys, wallet, etc. there. Diedra came up with the flat travel pack thing and it's great. I can fit my cell, lip gloss, a few bucks, driver's license and insurance card, and car key in it easily.
Ok, I had this great reply going and it was along one. Those of you who know me, know that I do not do long replies, just laziness. But, I lost it :no:some how..ahhh!, so now its gonna be short and sweet!
My shoes have alitte pink on them, color is not a problem as long as it is not primarily color. But, if you are worried you can bring them in and ask your instructor. My steth was bright pink at first (no problem)until I got my ultrascope-now the head has a sunset scene or something...Its pretty.
I agree with Colleen and Didera, I love :heartbeatmy rolling backpack and my Palm. :redbeatheThose are the two things I would HIGHLY recommend.
Another thing is get a good group of people around you. They will help pick you up when things get rough, and they do. They help keep you motivated, when you feel like you are not up to par, and you do.....They are the most important think that you need. I do not know what I would do without my girls, Colleen, Diedra, Lori, and Boni. :redbeathe:redbeathe We just know that someone has our backs...Husbands, boyfriends, moms and families are great but they just do not know what you are going through and it is hard to juggle sometimes, but you can do it. Lisa, and Dawn it sounds like you are in the same class, and you both sound motivated, you should really connect and form your own little group that will be with you through these next two years.
Ok, thats my two cent worth:twocents:
Heather
I agree...I am not sure how I'd be doing without my "student nurse" friends! We all understand each other. When one is down and all "woe is me", the others gather round to cheer that one up. You really should try to find a group of girls that are anal like you.
As far as Micro, I'm almost certain it was 4 days a week. It really wasn't too bad over the summer. Not too hard either.
Thank you so much for the advice. It's nice to see that you all provide a wonderful support system for eachother!
Ok, I've been researching the stethoscopes and am leaning towards the Littmann Master Classic II. I know that you guys were saying that we'll need a pediatrics head for the 2nd semester. I don't think the Master Classic II has an interchangeable head like the Ultrascopes do. Do any of you know if I'd have to buy a 2nd stethoscope for the 2nd semester or could I use the Master Classic II for peds? :redpinkhe
Thanks!
Lisa
Lisa,
The Littman steths are good, and well respected. I personally don't have any experience with them, but I know several people who use them. I know many people who do not have the Ultrascope like us with the interchangable head. But I'm not sure if they just use the same steth for Peds or not. Some people have a steth that has two sides, and they use the smaller side for the pediatric patient. I'll ask around to some of the gals I know that have the normal Littman without the double head and see what they have to say. Honestly you are only going to use the Peds head 2 or 3 times second semester... Once for your Maternity rotation with Mom/Baby, and maybe twice during your Peds rotation since you only have 2 real clinical days at the hospital during the Peds rotation. I am really thinking of focusing in OB after graduation, so to me it made sense to get the Peds head right away. If that's not your bag, you might consider skipping it. You can always borrow a classmate's Peds steth if needed.
