I'm a bit confused with the new system that is put in place to determine GPA and ranking for those applying for fall of 2010. Also, I've been told that the TEAS test will take the place of the NET test. Does anyone have any informationa as to when the application packet will be ready and the breakdown of the new requirements needed to successfully apply for the nursing program. Does anyone know anything about the TEAS test (Is it harder, study guides?). This information will be very helpful.:nuke:
Took the Teas test yesterday. From what I can remember, the challenging parts were on the math and chemistry. The A&P seemed to be combined with the chemistry section. I couldn't finish the math in time, so the questions I didn't get to answer will count against me. There were a lot of fractions, percentages and measurements to convert {ex: 1/5 is the same as a)7/8 b) 3/15 c)8/16} I must say that the test was fairly easy however; it will be good to refresh your memory on your A&P and math.
Run away from WCCCD!!!! Fair warning. I was traumatized for two years after serving a semester and a half of time there. After a good psychotherapist and a lot of R&R, I went to Michigan State and graduated with no trouble. Do yourself a favor and stay away!!
According to your other posts, you are starting MSU this month... Is the program really that accelerated?

How exactly did the school or its program traumatize you? No offense, but unless one of the professors assaulted you or something, I fail to see how any traumatization serious enough to warrant therapy could be the fault of the school, its program, or its instructors. :\
"No offense", but emotional stress is just as severe, if not at times, more severe than physical. It's truly a shame that more people who suffer bad experiences in life don't speak up and try to help one another. It's even more of a shame that when the handful of us do say something, others try to negate it. Those are the ones that will have to learn the hard way. I could tell everyone about each of the incidents that every one of us suffered, but I suppose in the long run, everyone has to have their own experiences in order to understand.
For those of you that are miraculously doing fine and think WCCCD will provide you with the education you need to succeed, pass the NCLEX, and perhaps move on to a higher degree, then I'm quite happy for you. My intent was to save one or two that are thinking of going into the program, and to let them know that there are better options out there for them than this hole-in-the-earth school. I truly wish that others would speak up that I KNOW had the same experiences that I did. Perhaps they will stumble upon this message board too.
That's all I'll say because I'm wasting my time, so for those who want to message me back with angry messages, don't bother. I tried, and good luck to all.
I'm sorry that my reply offended you, but my message was in no way angry. I simply asked you to elaborate a bit. Honestly, what sort of reaction did you expect? You entered into a thread of messages by current and future WCCCD and post a message telling people to "run away," claiming that you were somehow damaged directly by the school, its programs, or its faculty, yet provide absolutely no proof or any details, and... what? Expect people to blindly heed your strange warning? I'm sorry, but unless you can provide any evidence that the school damaged you in some way, I don't know what you really expected. Also, I never claimed that emotional stress is not a valid reason for therapy - you didn't provide any details regarding the type of damage that was inflicted upon you, so I didn't know what sort it was, and therefore couldn't have made such a claim - but I know how stressful the program itself can be (I'm currently in the program), and you've never given any details to illustrate how your issues were the school's fault.
As for the school being a "hole-in-the-earth" institution, I have to respectfully disagree. You're of course entitled to your opinion, but can I ask why you describe it so? As I said, I'm currently in the program and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. I do know a few people with things less stellar to say, but I have never heard anyone claim they were so severely damaged by... well, I don't know what. Of course, you've no obligation to elaborate, but simply stomping in to a thread and warning prospective students to stay away for who-knows-why accomplishes absolutely nothing but inciting drama. If that's your intention, fair enough.
I also noticed that you replied to me in the "WCCCD Spring 2010 starting soon" thread, though I can't really fathom why, as I didn't request any information from you. Maybe a name mixup? Anyhow, I disagree on all points there, especially the "no individualized attention" and "no choice" in the lottery, as well as people "sneaking up" during said lottery, but I really don't want to engage you in another thread, so I'll just leave that be.
I just graduated from WCCCD nursing program and I can tell you this...the program is tough and there are those instructors that if you do not have thick skin will get to you...but that is no different than any other nursing program. You always have those special instructors who believe in the old way of teaching nursing through intimidation and high pressure. If you can't handle that kind of stress then nursing may not be the right career for you. Lottery is Lottery..nothing special about it except it was probably the most stressful time for me. I just hated sitting there waiting to be called watching my first and second picks fill up before my eyes. I was fortunate to get called early in 3/4 lotteries so I pretty much got what I wanted. WCCCD's nursing program has it's unique issues, but it's nothing more than you will encounter in the real world of nursing. Nothing ever goes as planned and it actually prepares you for that. Good luck to all of those who are applying or have been accepted. Get ready for the ride of your life, but it goes by so fast that you can't believe it's over when it's over. LOL
Take care!
