1/2 way through level one... 1/3 of the students are gone...

That pretty much sums it up.

Today in NU 116, Level one, I noticed that many of the seats that were once occupied are now empty. Just to check, I thought I'd count the occupied seats. Sure enough, of the +/- 65 students that I started level one with, there were only 43 left after eight weeks. Talk about depressing!

I'm a "B" and hope to be there at the end of the next 8 weeks. How does this compare with your school?

Any tips?

I honestly had no idea what I was getting into, or that I had to know so much. I wish I had known of this board then. But with A LOT of determination, crying, and changing my life around, i see the light at the end of the tunnel. And I will have a much better life for it. So no regrets!

200 started with me last fall. So far I don't know anyone who's dropped out.

First semester we had 52 people. Second semester we started with 42 including 3 we picked up from those who are repeating. The classroom where fourth semester meets only has seats for 36. They say they could bring in more seats for that room if it were ever needed but so far they have never needed more.

I remember that feeling, finally coming up for air about half way through 2nd semester and wow, look at the empty seats..when did they go? oh, and then the dosage calcuation tests....becoming more personal with each loss. We are down 20 from 60, this is 4th semester & it still looks like we could lose more...

We lose about 10% each semester. It is hard to keep up with actual numbers because those that don't make it are replaced with people that are returning. It looks like we will graduate less than half of the people that I started with. :uhoh3:

We actually lost two very good students in the last semester just because they didn't label one of their answers on the final med calc test with "mils". They knew it was mils and the instructors knew they knew it. I thought that was assinine. Remember to label your answers in med-cal tests, sheesshhh!

lasoniamacaroni,

I don't know why that is. I'm in an ADN program here in Buffalo. Apparenty, this is typical of level one. I'm sure you are right that some people just wanted to "try it out" and had no real desire to be a nurse. I think the elevator eats the rest. This will be interesting.

You're in Buffalo? Fabulous! I am in Jamestown, going to SUNY campus here in the fall.

Oh and I was going to say that when I took my first semester of A&P, about half failed. I did very well, but didn't continue on. Most of those that were taking it weren't looking to be a nurse though so I couldn't tell you how many actually went on to the program in the fall.

This is one of those stupid questions...are people quitting because of the time committment and rigor of the material or are they getting an F in something and getting kicked out? What about the story about 2 answers lacking "mils" on one test...does that mean they were close to an F and that put them over the edge? Or are they failing clinicals? Or....?

Fill me in, please.

Just a newbie pre-nursing gal here...
