Waubonsee Community College-- Starting in Fall

Published

Hey everyone!! I just found out last week that I got accepted into Waubonsee Community College's nursing program!! I will be starting in October. Has anyone gone there? Any advice? What did your schedule look like? I am making myself crazy thinking about it. I have 3 kids that I will have to have in daycare. I wish I could know what my schedule will be now, but I won't know about the clinicals until after class starts. Any input is welcome!!!

We still have NOT heard anything.

I would call them and see what they say. They can check to see if indeed a letter did go out to you yet.

I wish you luck! say a little prayer!

I'm a Waubonsee student planning to finish in July. For anyone reading I can confirm a lot of things you've put. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to the admission process. I got in on my 3rd app as well, I started Oct 09. There are plenty of qualified applicants in district so I think those who have hometowns out of district moved while in the program. Right now everyone in my class is in district. So proving residency is critical.

re:clinicals, every instructor is different. Usually you get to somehow rank a preference, but for one class (I think 120?) She just decided for us. The instructors do tend to let you switch with someone but you have to do it right away. Its hard, but I work part time, have a school age son and toddler daughter, and have managed to not have any major time conflicts.

What they tell you at orientation is true. A lot of people will fail out or leave. It seems so far the big drop offs are in 105 and 205. I think we lost 8 in 205 with 5 petitioning to take it over. I think that leaves us at 23, 21 original. We will probably gain a few in 220 in January. I have some materials, objectives, links to preresearched meds in the Waubonsee format etc, let me know if you want any of this "study stuff"

Thanks for the post. Really puts it in prospective that there is no rhyme or reason! Good luck with the rest of your time and congrats ahead of time for graduating.

Just heard that they are STILL having meetings about admission for this semester. We still have not heard anything. THey said you can find out up to a week before class starts. How is that fair! How is that serving the community!!

They must meet on all the admissions at once, because my friends petitioning to retake 205 were told the meeting was last night and they'll be getting certified mail. My two other friends still in class with me said last night they both got phone calls a week or two before the start date to offer them a place (we started in October and don't have a break beforehand). But the who petitioning were told that since there is a "whole month" the results would be sent out certified mail.

Another tip, and one would think it would go without saying, is DON'T CHEAT. There was a cheater caught on the last test so all the instructors are going to be really looking for it.

He did not get in...again.

I am so sorry to hear that. I wish there was something I could do to help! I know the feeling of disappointment. All I can say is keep trying or apply to other places. Sorry again.

I am just joining this site and am so glad to have found it! I'm starting Prereqs at WCC in the Fall and I need A&P I & II and Micro. The college strongly recomends Bio 120 but doesn't require it. Will I be okay without it? I do have to work harder in science/bio but am a good student - I know how to work hard and study. Just looking for some insight, thanks!

I think you will be fine. They are intense courses but do your best. Get the coloring books and use the websites with the book! Good luck !

Just an update for anyone applying or looking to apply in the future. Received my acceptance letter last week for the fall. I'm in district and it was my 2nd time applying to the program. Both times all my pre-reqs and other requirements were complete when I applied.
