I'd recommend a G-shock by Casio. While certainly not a Breitling or Audemars piguet, you wouldn't want it to be. It'll be poop on, smacked against bed rails, ripped off, and abused. I learned the hard way... keep your nice Swiss movements at home. Plastic or rubber watches will endure better against dings and are more resistant to corrosion.

They come in a variety of colors and form factors with different options, and those with quartz movements will rarely loose track of time. They are a little more pricey than your $10-20 dollar walmart watch, but I figure buy one decent one that will last you a while instead of rebuying cheap ones that would cost more in the long run.
My 2cents.
I have this watch (got a great deal on it too) - http://www.dillards.com/product/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Alliance-Small-Watch_301_-1_301_500614384?splashlink=header_waccessories
It's simple and looks professional. It also takes tons of abuse and has hardly a scratch on it.
I have been wearing this - under $10 Casio watch that's water resistant as well, so I don't have to worry about it when I'm washing my hands. Numbers are a decent size and it has a second hand.

I wear a Citizen Eco-Drive gold-plated watch. It is waterproof, made of stainless steel, and will never need a battery because it is powered by any light source. Just leave it in direct sunlight or under a lighted lamp for a few hours, and the watch's battery will be fully charged for 180+ days.
Here's a don't -
The watches made by NurseMates get water in them! While water resistant is printed on the back, this may be referring to the "guts" of the watch and not the face. I'm the type to wash my hands and forearms THOROUGHLY after a run in with poop, vomit, bodily fluids (oh my!), and this watch is collecting water in the face. Condensation and water droplets obscure the second hand. This is just no good.
I'm hesitant to get a Wal-Mart cheapie for that very reason. Fabric and leather are no-no's. I prefer the plastic variety (see my vigorous hand/arm washing routine above) because you can wash the band and swab with an alcohol wipe when necessary.
Still searching for the perfect watch. I've got a few on my amazon wishlist to try.
