Hello!
I hope I am posting this question in the correct thread/section. I'm a senior nursing student from Cleveland, about to graduate in Jan 2016. I am looking extremely hard to find a nurse residency in the Seattle area. I was confused about UW's nursing residency program. It seems that it's listed as a "job posting" rather than a typical application. For example, UCLA's RN Residency program is very clear. Applications are due Oct 5-11 and interview invites sent out in November and you will hear back if you are accepted in December.
I'm just a bit confused about UW's program and how it works.
Also, I was wondering if anyone knew if Swedish's Residency program dates are only in July, August and November? Will I have to wait that long and go on without a job (once I pass my NCLEX) until July?
Thank you for taking time to read this! Any information would be extremely helpful!
Swedish is big. It's really part of the "Providence" system now, but in name still "Swedish." I think they do a good job training new grads - I felt the orientation was well organized and better than many other places. And I wouldnt worry if it's a good job, etc when you're a new grad - you need a job. Simple as that.
The biggest campus is "First Hill." 3 blocks nearby is "Cherry Hill"....they have different specialties so it's not a big deal that they are so close. A small newer hospital with not a lot of consistent patients is in Issaquah. A smaller older more "community" hospital is in Ballard. Another hospital is in Edmonds, wa.....this place used to be called "Stevens' hospital" before Swedish started managing them. There's also a Swedish Mill Creek campus but it's real quiet and mostly just a free-standing ED and some primary care offices - not a "hospital."
Look, there's good and bad at any place. The benefits at Swedish suck but if you're young and generally healthy you wont notice. Dont be too picky about your first job.
If you're going to live near Seattle and are not from here - you need to start figuring out housing asap and consider traffic. Those are two big issues here. Good luck!
I applied 2 days ago and received an email to set up and confirm my telephone interview for next week with a nurse recruiter. This is for the Summer 2016 cohort, they said in the email the available units won't be confirmed until the phone interview but to have 2 preferences ready. Good luck to all and let's keep each other updated!
I had a phone interview at the End of March, hoping for Neonatal ICU! I was told I would hear back by the end of April about an interview with the unit/managers. I'm surprised there isn't more talk about this program on allnurses, I'm hoping they're still looking to hire a lot of new grads, NICU is so competitive!

Well, judging by the email on Tuesday requesting BLS cards, this is a massive hire. I am going to be new to Swedish, but was hired under the New to Specialty hire group, so basically a residency for experienced nurses. It'll be interesting to see how this works. I imagine we'll all see each other for the first two weeks for Clinical Services Orientation and whatnot (comp training, so forth and so on) and then will split up into our respective specialties from there.
Good Luck to everyone and enjoy!!!
