Seattle's UWMC/Swedish Nursing Residency 2016

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hello!

I hope I am posting this question in the correct thread/section. I'm a senior nursing student from Cleveland, about to graduate in Jan 2016. I am looking extremely hard to find a nurse residency in the Seattle area. I was confused about UW's nursing residency program. It seems that it's listed as a "job posting" rather than a typical application. For example, UCLA's RN Residency program is very clear. Applications are due Oct 5-11 and interview invites sent out in November and you will hear back if you are accepted in December.

I'm just a bit confused about UW's program and how it works.

Also, I was wondering if anyone knew if Swedish's Residency program dates are only in July, August and November? Will I have to wait that long and go on without a job (once I pass my NCLEX) until July?

Thank you for taking time to read this! Any information would be extremely helpful!

Hello! I'll be coming from CA, and I'll be working PCU. I'm rather excited to meet everyone!

Did anyone hear back from Cherry Hill CV ICU? I interviewed in mid December but didn't hear anything yet since then.

Has anybody heard about their relocation package? I am coming from SC and will be in the ED at Edmonds.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

No but I spoke with the preboarding specialist about that and she said that they would reach out to me shortly, but if not she gave me their contact information. I still haven't heard from the relocation team, but will call them soon.

hi everyone! I just applied last week and have a phone interview with HR today! Im surprised to see that they have been hiring for months now, and surprised that they still have openings! I plan on throwing my hat in the ring for ED. they ask you to have two choices ready, Im guessing you can choose ED at two different hospitals or do they just go by unit and place you after? Either way, wish me luck and Im happy to keep folks updated. It looks like I may be the tail end of hiring.

just finished my interview, the only remaining spots are in Ortho and Issaquah ED.

Just wondering, I recieved an offer yesterday and I am supposed to hear from pre boarding and relocation assistant has anyone got an Idea on how the relocation assistance works?

Hello! I am new to the thread/discussion. I just accepted a position on the Gen/Surgical floor in the Feb 2016 Residency Cohort. I am a local Seattle resident though.. I am happy to give local advice.. I have lived in Seattle for 3 years now, from the east coast originally. I am nervous about starting in Feb and am happy to see others here that have been dealing with the same issues. I applied a few times to the residency program, starting in December, and finally after passing NCLEX was interviewed.. I thought that had something to do with it, but perhaps it wasn't. I am excited about the floor I was selected for, while it was not my first choice. I am hoping it will help my career path and not set me back. I was not selected to interview for the ICU where I originally wanted but hoping to transition maybe after 6mo to a year.. As for a lot of the comments about how they are hiring so quickly.. my take on that is that they are aquiring SO MANY new small organizations they are growing quicker than they can keep up with. I did my clinicals at a local hospital in Seattle, Virginia Mason. During that time, it came out that they lost their surgical contract with Group Health to Swedish. Group Health closed their doors a few years back and since then all surgeries went to Virginia Mason, comprising 1/3 thier revenue. Which means that anyone with group health insurance and needs hospitalization/surgery now has to go to Swedish. Swedish also acquired ambulatory surgical centers in Seattle, James and Minor. From my knowledge they are consuming more and more small health care practices in the area.. leaving them with over 1500 inpatient acute care beds to manage and staff with nurses. SOOO... that is my take on the urgency to staff.. How has the preboarding process been going for everyone else? I am having hard time reaching people and getting a timely response..

Hi,

I will graduated in May 2016. Is anybody know when application will open? For out of state people, do they help pay for moving cost? And I don't want to be rude but how they pay for residency program? Residency program in Denver start at 25-26$. I willing to move but Seattle can be very expensive to live.

Is the facility in Denver also a Swedish Hospital ? I only knew they were in Seattle. I am not sure about moving costs... sorry. But I know that the next cohort will be in July. That was what I was told about the units that were available to me... that I could interview with the units that were left or wait till the next cohort in July. Also WA state is unionized. you can check out the union contract for swedish for pay scale and compensation at Swedish Medical Center

I have a couple classmates from Hawaii who are in the most recent cohort and from what one of them told me, they paid for her plane ticket and the shipping costs for her car and dog. As far as applying for the July cohort, I spoke with one of the recruiters and she mentioned that we can just apply for the Feb cohort listing and they'll contact you for the first interview.

Good luck everyone! I still haven't taken my NCLEX yet and maybe that's why my submission is still "in review" even though I applied in December. I heard a lot of hospitals don't even bother to schedule an interview until you're licensed.
