Washington Hospital Center RN residency - need letter of rec at interview?

U.S.A. Washington DC

I was wondering for those who have interviewed for the Washington Hospital Center RN residency program, did you need to have letters of recommendation in hand? I just received an email today that my interview is this FRIDAY. I would be coming from Seattle so this is an investment. The faculty at the school I went to are out of office until next week since we are on the quarter system. I know I can get letters mailed in but doubt I can have them by Friday.

The job posting says to bring letters, but the confirmation email I got about my interview only says to bring my licenses/certifications and college degree. No mention of letters.

If I need letters I will not bother flying out to DC which would be a shame. It's so hard for new grads to find jobs around here. I'll call HR tomorrow but am under a time crunch so was wondering if anyone had input about this?

Ok I think I need one more haha.. by the way does anyone know what unit they are on? Or are we all in the same situation not knowing until orientation?

haha, no idea yet... I'm nervous-- I interviewed for a Neuro unit but she said they didn't have any space so..?

I interviewed with the mgr from med/surg pulmonary, but he said he didn't have any openings, so all I know is med/ surg.

I'm definitely going to ask about doing the 2nd PPD and fit test during orientation when I go tomorrow. I'd much rather not have to pay for parking 2 more times than I really need to. Thanks for the heads up on that one. I also have to get my badge picture taken, but they should be open tomorrow morning when I'm there anyway.

I interviewed with the ED manager- same thing no spaces. Where are they gunna put us all?!? haha I'm not too worried, the nurse recruiter said we were guaranteed spaces. Yesss 0402, keep us posted on that =-)

I asked for clarification when I was there today. They said that there are 2 steps to the clearance- the first is getting cleared to attend orientation (1 PPD, physical exam and I think one more thing that I can't remember). Then there's the clearance to start on the floor- 2nd PPD, titers, fit test, flu shot, etc. She said that the 2nd PPD and fit test can definitely be done during orientation. If at all possible, it's easier if you can do it before orientation starts (especially because the fit testing only goes twice a week), but it's totally fine, especially since they understand that some people don't live here, just yet.

Did anyone else get a letter in their email today stating which med/ surg unit you are going to? If so, where is everyone else going to? When I was at Occ Health last week, I met 2 people that were actually hired into specific units, so of course, I was a little jealous, but I'm happy now that I know where I'm going. Off to figure out what type of med/ surg 1C is. =)

I just got my offer letter as well... Im in the emergency room and am going out of my mind with excitement. Congrats to all of you, I cant wait to meet everyone!!! =-)

Congrats on the ED! Did you ask for that? I found out that I'm on medicine/ geriatrics (I asked for m/s, so I figured that's where I'd be, but I didn't know what 1C meant, which is all they put in my letter). I'm excited to see the unit and get started. I feel so out of practice, since I graduated in May (though I knew I it would be a little while, since I wasn't able to apply for July start dates).

Thanks dear!! And congrats to you as well!! I had ED as my first choice, but I knew it was a long shot. I interviewed with the ED manager, and he said it was full. I was told I would be put on a med/surg floor. The offer letter was a shock haha. I'm so excited, but so nervous. I know exactly how you feel, I graduated in May as well. I feel like I dont know anything, but all of my friends say they felt exactly the same way. Did you reply to the offer letter? Or do we just sign it when we get there? I wonder what day we take the math test on, I need to review that. Oh man, I'm excited but again so nervous. My friend and I move down Friday, it's all just happening so fast. Again, congrats to everyone!

=-) Alex

Hey guys! Congrats on getting those offers! Anyone else know if we need specific scrub colors? I know some hospitals require specific colors so I don't want to go dropping money on some scrubs only to get something I might need to return later. Thanks!

Can't wait to meet you all on Monday!

I was told whatever color you want, but I don't know about certain specialty areas where there are sometimes specific colors or wearing the hospitals scrubs (L&D, OR, etc). I just got my new scrubs in the mail yesterday. =) Where are you going to be working? I'm yet to meet or "e-meet" 2 people going to the same unit. :p
