I was wondering for those who have interviewed for the Washington Hospital Center RN residency program, did you need to have letters of recommendation in hand? I just received an email today that my interview is this FRIDAY. I would be coming from Seattle so this is an investment. The faculty at the school I went to are out of office until next week since we are on the quarter system. I know I can get letters mailed in but doubt I can have them by Friday.
The job posting says to bring letters, but the confirmation email I got about my interview only says to bring my licenses/certifications and college degree. No mention of letters.
If I need letters I will not bother flying out to DC which would be a shame. It's so hard for new grads to find jobs around here. I'll call HR tomorrow but am under a time crunch so was wondering if anyone had input about this?
It went really well. I got and accepted the job!! Ahhhhh, its all so fast and crazy. I got a really good feel from the hospital and everyone I interviewed with there. I'm excited. Cant wait to meet all of you at orientation! Natchan- Hows the apartment search going? My brother said U street is a safe place to be. I'm looking at a complex called the Cloisters. Its really safe and so close to the hospital.
PS- My nurse recruiter told me there is an 18 month commitment, and I've only talked to one other person who heard the same thing... I'm so confused and would hate to misinform anyone. Does anyone know the real answer to whether or not there is any commitment to the hospital after orientation?
I know someone that started in July, and she told me 100%, they did not have a specific commitment length. I guess they could have changed it for this start, but I know as of then, they did not have one (not sure why they would change it right now, but I guess they could). I have to go back on Thursday to get my PPD read, so if I have time, I can swing by HR and see if anyone there can give me a straight answer.
I had heard from somewhere online that they got rid of the 18 month commitment. We have to get to the bottom of this haha. Amanda you are from boston too right? When are you moving down? Also have you found a place yet? The place I am looking at is legit a 5 minute walk to the hospital, and its safe.

Yep, from Boston too, north of Boston actually! I found a place already in Cleveland Park, because I heard (and saw) anywhere close to the hospital is a BAD area (I was told not to walk even from the Metro, take the shuttle). I'm flying down Oct 16 but my apt isn't ready until Oct 23 :\ What about you?
Diamond- I have no idea what the base pay for PCTs is. Try asking on one of the other threads under DC nurses, because we havent started working yet nad there are nurses on the other ones that already have. If you dont find anything maybe try calling HR? And if worse comes to worse, I can let you know in a few weeks when I start up down there.
Amanda- I am also about 15 minutes North of Boston!! Are you going down alone? My best friend from nursing school also got the job. We are taking a place near the hospital- my brother lives in the same complex. Its kinda pricey, but I figure its a normal rent living in the city. I'm so excited, but really nervous too.
