Washington Hospital Center RN residency - need letter of rec at interview?

Published

I was wondering for those who have interviewed for the Washington Hospital Center RN residency program, did you need to have letters of recommendation in hand? I just received an email today that my interview is this FRIDAY. I would be coming from Seattle so this is an investment. The faculty at the school I went to are out of office until next week since we are on the quarter system. I know I can get letters mailed in but doubt I can have them by Friday.

The job posting says to bring letters, but the confirmation email I got about my interview only says to bring my licenses/certifications and college degree. No mention of letters.

If I need letters I will not bother flying out to DC which would be a shame. It's so hard for new grads to find jobs around here. I'll call HR tomorrow but am under a time crunch so was wondering if anyone had input about this?

I'm interviewing September 24th . I am from Boston as well!!

I got the job!! But she said I need an MMR Titer... do I still need that if I have had the MMR vaccines??? My doctor says the titer will take several weeks and I need it in by next Mon!! :-\

You might still need it, since there are people that get the vaccine but do not end up with a positive titer (only thing I can think of). They didn't tell me anything about vaccinations or anything like that. There was a mention of it on what to bring to my employment physical, but nothing else. I really need to find my immunization card. I know I had my titers done for nursing school (they were done in June 2008), so I wonder if I can find that sheet and see if they'll take it.

I'm going nuts trying to find a nice place to live, driving back and forth etc etc... but soo happy I got the job! :) but when you were saying none of your HR paperwork was working, did you mean you couldn't sign it? That's what happened to me on the tax documents...

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. They gave me a number to call and after about 300 attempts and one last update to Acrobat, it finally worked. When I called HR earlier, they also just told me that I can finish up anything that needs to be done when I'm there for my physical. I found my print off showing my positive titers for MMR and for Varicella, so I hope they'll take that. If you need anything down on this end, let me know. My kids are in school now, and since we don't start until next month, I'm fairly flexible right now. =) Did you already schedule your physical? Mine is on the 28th.

Mine is Monday the 20th...I still have to apply for my license and everything!

Wow! I don't think I ever heard about the 18 month commitment. That freaks me out! I just heard that I got it officially today :) I was at the airport and didn't hear my phone but got the voicemail. Did they tell either of you what unit you're on? I just know I have until Thursday to decide...

I'm not sure what unit I'm on yet... did you take it?

I did and I'm so nervous about finding a place in time and how I will like living in the east coast. I have a friend over there looking for me but he's a guy so safety isn't as much of a concern for him I think? Maybe I'm overly nervous about safety I'm just going by what I have heard.

I haven't gotten a hold of HR since accepting but they left a message saying I need a physical date before getting an offer letter. I actually just had a physical so I wonder if my doc can just fill out some paperwork. The new hire paperwork is in my email waiting! I wonder when they will tell us what units we are assigned to. AHH! I hope this hospital is worth moving for! At this point it's my only option so why not have an adventure?

I'm still waiting for CA to verify my license so DC can issue mine. I saw today that the CA BRN was nice enough to cash my check, but they still have me listed as San Diego and DC still has me as pending. It's only been a few weeks, and CA says up to 6 weeks, so I'm sure it'll be done in time.

If you need anything down here, really, I'm happy to help. =)

My brother is a police officer in DC- aka he has the inside scoop on (un)safe locations to live :). If you want, if you come up with a few options or even general areas of DC you are thinking about moving- feel free to post here or message them to me and I can get his opinion on the safety there. Good luck!

I just scheduled my physical for October 8th which was the absolute last day to do it. That's in 3 weeks! A friend of mine is looking at a place today on U Street. Thank you for all your offers to help out! I might be in touch about the move. Until then got lots of shots and papers to gather and packing to do in 3 weeks. This is crazy... for all of us!
