Sorry to ask you another question, but did you find your apartment on craigslist or another site? I've been sticking mostly with craigslist but wouldn't mind using another source. Does anyone work at WHC and commute from North Virginia (more specifically, Alexandria or Arlington)? I'm trying to look for a place in NoVA but I'm just afraid the commute might be unbearable. If anyone does commute, how long does it typically take you to get there and do you drive or take the metro? I'd prefer to drive but I've heard it'll be quite a pain. If I do take the metro, is it reliable? How are they with delays and safety? If I can't find a place in NoVA, I might go with Silver Spring or College Park in Maryland....any insight on commuting from there? I've been told to base my housing choice on commute rather than cost of living because it'll be almost the same regardless of VA or MD while DC itself is most expensive. Thanks for any advice or suggestions!

How are utilities in the District? Also, how is your commute? Do you drive to WHC or use the metro? In terms of being inside DC, I've been looking for places in Dupont Circle and the Waterfront south of the National Mall. Otherwise I'm looking in Alexandria, Arlington, Silver Springs, and College Park. I'm just concerned that if I live in Alexandria or Arlington, my commute will be unbearable since you kind of have to go through DC to get to the hospital. I'm sure it'll still be a rough commute from Silver Spring or College Park but might be better than being in Virginia.

.Can anyone in Oklahoma confirm this video's claims? I know the video is a few months old now but at any point was this ever true? If it was and still is, thats great. If it wasn't true, perhaps someone needs to update the media. The reason I ask is I would totally consider moving to Oklahoma. I'll go wherever the jobs are.

Excellent point and i feel the same way. I've looked into other fields and it always fun to cone up with ideas of where else I can apply this degree. I certainly have not had trouble finding insurance companies actively recruiting me to sell insurance which I would probably be terrible at. Aside from insurance companies tho, I'm not quite sure where else to go. Maybe look into research positions with universities. But back to nursing for the armed forces, do es anyone have any opinions as to which would provide the best clinical experiences between the different divisions. It seems benefits are all the same across the board but I assume the training programs are slightly different. Any ideas which is the 'best'? Why would someone choice AF over Army or vice versa?

No, i dont believe so. Last i heard it was ~$28 for a new grad there. But with experience, I believe Penn is the highest paying in the area so it would be nice to start and stay there. Jefferson is paying 27 and some cents for newbies.

Agreed with the "apps, pray, move forward". Its the only way. You wouldn't happen to be in Texas would you? That's the only state that I've heard it being easier to find a job. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to pick up and move there.

Is the Air Force Nursing Corp strictly stateside or is there a chance you will be shipped to the Middle East or wherever our next war is? Also, the commitment is only 3 years? I'd expect it to be longer than that. Maybe they have you on reserve for a few more years after that? I mean, I'm all for taking care of our troops, but I have no desire to be involve in the war conflict (not my cup of tea).

New grad here also. I can see where the OP is coming from. I have nothing again those that came out of retirement to provide for themselves and family. More power to them for come back into the work force to help themselves and their families. I am somewhat disappointed in the hospitals that are not looking for new talent. They are only setting themselves up for the fall. I am mostly mad at the schools and the hospitals for making themselves diploma mills, pumping out new grads like an assembly line. Last night I applied to a hospital, two med surg positions on different floors. Within 10 minutes of submitting the app, I had 2 rejection emails in my inbox saying we reviewed you application and have decided to go with another candidate. The hospitals have automated the systems to not even look at a new grad application....unless this was the most diligent recruiter ever, checking the latest apps constantly, even at 11pm. Sigh. Well back to it.

there is a book ive seen that is specifically for medical spanish, focusing on keywords. even if you cant say a whole sentence grammatically correct, you would have the right vocab to step in the right direction.
