Hi I am wondering if anyone has heard anything about Washington Hospital Center or any other DC hospitals that are having a Summer 2011 New Nurse Residency program? Thanks in Advance!
Just got the news---I got a call that I was offered a position on the unit I interviewed for!!! Am so excited and don't know what to do with myself!!!!! :-D
congrats! did you say yes right away? i got that call today too and asked for a day to think about it and i don't think the caller was pleased..
ana121na,
Hi ANA121na! I've been following this thread and would like to pick your brain (ask a few questions) concerning your decision and the steps toward moving to DC and participating in this internship. I'm currently a nursing student in Louisiana and would love to apply for the opportunity next year. Since you're from Arkansas I am hoping that you could help me gain a clearer perspective on this possibility. Is there an email I can contact you at? Or, can you email me at [email protected] and I'll respond with questions as soon as I receive it. I'd really appreciate any help you're willing to offer! :)

That's great!! Congrats! You got your offer quicker than me. I was offered a position a week to the day of my interview. Sounds like you got yours in about 4 days. What unit did you get hired for? I will be working on 2D.
Also I see you are moving from Arkansas and I'm relocating from Tennessee. Have you started searching for housing yet?
Hey girl! I believe I will be on 1B or 1C. Honestly i can't remember in the excitement of it all. I swear that day I was on 1B but on the phone i thought I heard 1C. But its a med/surg floor at any rate.
yes, i actually put an add on craigslist about a month ago and have found a roommate and we are currently research/looking into places. I plan on living in DC either in or around Adams Morgan/Dupont Circle/Chinatown/or U Street.
What about you? what are your relocation plans?
Also, I'm nervous about getting my license switched over. I've been doing my research to know exactly what to do but I don't take my NCLEX til June 20th and I'm moving right after that so I hope its a quick and painless process to walk into the DC authority and get my license switched over. I hope I get those stupid fingerprints back in the mail soon so I can go ahead and send them to the Metropolitan police so they can process them. Anyways, I just don't want anything to jepordize this opportunity so I hope it goes smoothly.
also, i'm not the best source on reasonably prices/good area in DC but the NW areas are the safest, but pricey. Probably won't pay less than 1000 in rent unless you move into a room in a house or something. The closest metro stop is Brookland/CUA (redline) or Columbia Heights (green line). There is a shuttle that runs from both of those that takes about 5 minutes. There is more info on the WHC website as well.
I applied for a DC license from a CA license and it was quite the process so I would do everything asap, except I know there are some things you have to do in the area. I had to go and make an appointment to get a background check and fingerprinting done after I paid a couple of fees, did some paperwork and sent a verification form to my state of licensure.
I'm still waiting for my license to come in the mail..

Is your unit a specialty unit? My unit is a general medicine unit and I will see everything from patients who have had strokes, heart attacks and are on telemetry, to diabetic patients, etc.
As for my DC license, I went to the board the day after my interview. I just graduated May 7th so I filed an initial application to sit for a DC license by exam. I also got my appointment card while I was there to go to Metro police to be fingerprinted. The only thing the board was waiting on was an official transcript from my school showing my earned nursing degree and the results of my background check. Well, within 3 weeks I got my ATT (authorization to test) and I schedule with Pearson on June 24th. My physical with Occupational health at WHC is June 28th.
I am trying to find a place by July 1st and I have been looking in the Montgomery County Md area like Silver Springs and Bethesda. I have a middle schooler so a good public school system was very important. Virginia is nice but the commute is not good for WHC IMO. The cost of living is so much cheaper here in Nashville TN but the wages are not as high as DC either.
Hi all,
I was offered and accepted a position last week! I interviewed with and will be working on 4E. Congratulations to everyone who have accepted positions, I can't wait to start!
Currently, I'm looking for housing to start around July 1st. I'm planning on doing a group house/apartment with 3-4+ people, everyone with their own room. I'm planning to live in DC around U Street, Dupont Circle or Adams Morgan. I also love Georgetown but would only really consider a place there if it was close to one of the bus lines that go to WHC (H2, H4, D8). From what I've see it'll probably be around 800 per room because multiple roommates really save money in dc proper, which is comparable prices to Arlington but you get to live in the city!
I figured it'd be fun to live with other people in the same boat as I, and after orientation we'll be on different schedules so the place will seem more spacious. Let me know if you're interested or have something set up with a few people already and could add another. Send me a message at my alt. email: [email protected]. I'm a 25 y/o female and consider myself fun, respectable and easy going. I'd be fine with all female roommates or half females half males, either way hopefully all with similar easy going, fun respectable personalities. I'll be at WHC for my paperwork and physical on the 13th, if anyone else will be around that day!
