Hi I am wondering if anyone has heard anything about Washington Hospital Center or any other DC hospitals that are having a Summer 2011 New Nurse Residency program? Thanks in Advance!
Hi,This is my first time posting but I've been a browser for several months. Just wanted to let you all know that I received an offer from WHC on Monday May 16th for a general medicine unit. I interviewed on Monday May 9th and was so excited to hear back so soon.
.
Wow, congratulations that's fantastic! What units did you ask to interview for?
thats awesome, congratulations! Do you have any tips for us that are about to go? What was it like?
I was wondering about who you interviewed with vs. what unit you wrote down as your first choice as well. was the Medicine floor your first choice and did you interview with that nurse manager? Or someone else?
Congrats again!
Thanks you guys!! My 3 choices were in this order ER, Cardiac, Med Surg. After I interviewed with the Nurse Recruiter, she said that she recommends me for a General Medicine Unit. I don't know if this was based on my interview answers or their need. I'm an EMT and really wanted the ER but I'm okay with the unit I was hired for.
After interviewing with the Nurse Recruiter, who asked me traditional interview questions, the Nurse Manager came shortly thereafter to the auditorium. She took me and 2 other ladies on a tour of her unit and we got to ask questions in private of the other nurses there. After being there a short while, we went back to the auditorium where she interviewed each one of us individually. Her questions were all clinical based. I believe she asked me 4 or 5 questions and I did well on them. I was told that they would let us know something in a week or 2 and I was pleasantly surprised this past Monday with an offer. I don't know anyone else that was there or who is starting the residency. Has anyone else received an offer or know anyone else who has an offer to start July 18th?
I will be relocating from TN so I have a lot to do from now until then. Also, I got my ATT from Pearson to sit for my NCLEX yesterday. The DC Board of Nursing process was so streamlined and I can't believe that I received my ATT within 2 weeks of applying for licensure by exam.
Good luck to everybody who's still waiting on their offer :)

Be very careful to read all the requirements for licensure in DC. It's more than just the NCLEX. I think you need a background check and fingerprints as well. DC changed their licensing regs this year, so not everyone is familiar with these rules yet.

When you submit your application to the board of Nursing, there's a checklist that they go through with you. I paid the $50 fee and had my fingerprints done at the Metro Police dept a few weeks ago. The Dean of my Nursing Program wrote a letter on school letterhead indicating my graduation date so I could apply but they are still waiting on the official transcript from my school to finalize everything. I have an NCLEX exam date with Pearson for late June.
Congrats EMT2RN2011!I'm still hoping for a call myself. Did they call or email you? Also, was the contact from the Nurse Manager or HR? If HR was it the person who interviewed you? Thanks!
Thank you! You will get the call :) I think it depends on the Nurse Manager who interviewed you and how quickly they submit their requests to Nurse Recruitment. What type of unit did you interview for and was your interview also on May 9th?
The Nurse Recruiter who interviewed me called me early on last Monday the 16th. I actually missed her call and had a message from her. I called her back and she said that the Nurse Manager that I interviewed with wanted to offer me a position and I accepted right then! She also verified that I am sitting for a DC license. She then emailed me my offer letter with pay, orientation details, and appt for a physical/drug screen.
I felt that it went well with both the Nurse Recruiter and the Nurse Manager. How did your interview go?
I think my interview went well. But, I haven't yet received an offer, so I guess mine didn't go QUITE as well as yours. :-)
Did they tell you which unit/floor you'll be working in? Also, did they say when you'd see something more specific in writing (like some sort of offer letter, starting salary, etc)?
I'm hoping I hear something one way or the other tomorrow, as I'm leaving on Sunday for 2 weeks vacation in Italy.
