Hi I am wondering if anyone has heard anything about Washington Hospital Center or any other DC hospitals that are having a Summer 2011 New Nurse Residency program? Thanks in Advance!
I had my job interview at WHC today. It was pretty much like JennRN625 reported previously.
There were probably 40 people at my interview, which was held in a large theatre-seating auditorium at the hospital. The HR recruiter interviewed us right there off in a corner for about 15 minutes. Then you wait around for the nurse manager who's coming to interview you for your unit. Not everyone gets to interview with the unit they listed first on their email list of preferences they sent HR. One guy at my interview had requested to interview for IMC, but instead was interviewed for a cardiac step-down unit. My nurse manager just happened to show up right after my interview with HR, so I was lucky, and off we went to sit together elsewhere in the auditorium for my interview.
i had the same sorts of clinical questions as JennRN625, plus a question about resolving interpersonal conflict, good and bad experiences in nursing school, etc. The clinical questions were pretty basic, like:
Your pt is one day post-op. You notice he's become tachy and his blood pressure has dropped. What do you think is going on? What are you going to do about it? What orders do you expect from the attending MD?
Your pt was fine before lunch. Now she has altered mental status, is combative and uncooperative. What do you think is going on? What are you going to do about it? What orders are you expecting from the MD?
I thought the whole thing was fairly well organized, and I also got to take a tour of the unit where I want to work. So it was all good.
I think my interview went well, and I should hear something within a couple weeks.
oh yeah that reminds me of a Q--b/c i think is said NICU, Med/SURG, Oncology as my choices but now I think my choices changed...do we have an opportunity that day to tell them again where we are most interested in?? I'd really like to do E.R. if its available....
thanks!!!!! and good luck as well!!

Emergency Dept is very competitive. I suggest you call the HR recruiter ASAP and discuss with them. They have so many interviews to do, you'll only get to interview with one nurse manager.

Alright, thanks for the idea!!!
Also, do we need to bring copies of our resume/cover letters? Did any one do that at your interview??

Since we submitted our resume and cover letter online, I don't think it's necessary. But I think I brought copies of my resume anyway to give to whoever interviewed me, as needed. I also brought my two sealed letters of reference, and my original BLS for Healthcare (CPR) card.
Hey Pokytrokyt,
I and another interviewee or two I've spoke with haven't heard back yet. I hope a call comes tomorrow for all of us!

It's a job interview, so formal business wear is required. Not business casual.
