hey there - i just got married and am looking into getting into travel nursing as a way for my husband and i to travel and see the country while we are young and not tied down with family things. i have been doing some research into travel companies and already got an offer from o'grady peyton without an interview.
that kinda makes me think they are desparate....
any thoughts on finding a good company, good recruiter, and the job offer???
thanks.

o'grady peyton, nurses rx, preferred, medical express, and american mobile are all affiliated...the first four are all part of the "umbrella" company american mobile...aka the evil empire...i started out with them...completed 7 contracts (13 weeks each) and left making less money that i started with!!
try national healthcare staffing...you can access them online.

american mobile is known for their poor pay and benifits, i would be very careful if i were you. you might consider on assignment. on assignment is the best out there with high pay, fully furnished housing, and total honesty. if you need a recruiter you can pm and i can answer your questions. no matter who you select really investigate them well and see what other nurses say about them. there are alot of bad companys out there. you should have no out of pocket expences when you travel. look in the travel nurses section to read about other companys as well.
Thanks for the guidance - I will continue my search elsewhere. I'm glad I got started early.

Definitely no out of pocket expenses should be required of you. And they are with the ones that you mentioned. And not an extra fee for your own housing.

Keep in mind also that you can submit to a few companies, as you are not under any obligation to accept an assignment from them. Some companies are really great, but are only great for one area of the country, and if you want to travel out of that area, you end up somewhere else.

I'm also looking for another assignment - have been traveling for 4 diff. assignments and don't find much of a difference between companies. Am I looking at the wrong agencies - Am. Mobile (which you dont like and I agree with you) cross country and medstaff. I don't think I'm getting such a great deal but dont have anything to compare with.

I'm currently talking with NursesRx, and my biggest issue is in October I was quoted and job in San Jose, at Good samaritin Hospital for 38/hr plus Time and ahalf after 8 hours, Now they're telling me the same job is 30/hr then 45/hr blended rate to 38/hr. What is the deal. Do the hospitals pay these companies a flat fee, then the company pays the nurse how is that set up, I thought it depended on the need of the hospial too and what they are willing to pay. Thanks for any input

I just turned down assignments with NursesRX.
The pay was good, UNTIL they told me I would have to pay for my own housing out of it!
No thanks!
What I have learned is that in most cases, the hospital pays the agency a flat hourly rate. The agency gets part of it and you get part of it.
If the agency is offering you less, it's because they are taking more.
As for O'Grady-Peyton, I was in negotiations with them (before I knew better) and they lied to me a screwed me over by purposefully giving me misinformation and making me look foolish to a facility.
So, of course I did not go with them.

I currently work for Elite nurses Inc. They are a small but very cool company to work for. THey were the best paying out of 4 agency's I checked into in the WI area. I do know that they do assignments all over the U.S. Just remember to not take the 1st opportunity that you find search around for the best pay rate! They will always try and low ball you. I currently do med-surg assignments. Let me know if you have more ?'s.
Have a great day and hope this helps

Hi,
you and your husband will have a blast traveling together. That is what my husband and I are doing. Our favorite place was Maui! We have been all over. I would not travel with anyone associated with american mobile. I traveled with them and had a HORRIBLE first travel experience. Research you company and hospitals! you can PM me and I can give you more info!
