Want to move! Just do not know where.

Hi there

I need some input on where to live. I currently live in St. Louis, Missouri and I want to move. The one thing is I am just not sure what place is good for a young, single nurse. Obviously I need some place where the cost of living is affordable and safe. If you could just suggest some places to check out and why. Thanks for your time in advance.

There was a time that I would have said Florida, but with the high cost of insurance and property, it's not as attractive anymore.

My next choice would be Seattle. It's a modern city with lots to offer, a good real estate market, and in the region where nurses make some of the highest salaries in the country.

I came to Boston, and now I am looking to move again!!!!!

Since I am single and dont have children, it is not as much of a problem, but it is sooo stressful.

Boston is nice for young people, but hard to "break in" and make friends, cost of living is high and the weather is too brutal for me, coming from california...also no nursing shortage here!!

im considering colorado, tx, atlanta, NC, or back to cali... im gunna look into places that have shortages that offer incentives and go visit, and make a thoughtout personal choice... visit and research places, and call around..

good luck!!! Im sure you'll find your place:nurse:

aw, dang it, new2boston.

i'd never recommend coming live in boston.

it is expensive and you're so right, about there being no shortage of nsg jobs.

most of the 'kids' find apts in allston, brighton...still big $$.

if you like the city, i'd consider philly...

that may be my next move.

wishing you the best.

Any place has to be better than St. Louis. Just drop a coin on a map and go where it lands!!! I've visited St. Louis and surrounding areas twice, and I'll never go back. I can't think of anything really great about the area, although the engineering of the Arch is pretty amazing. :twocents:

I'm not a nurse and I have never played one on TV; but, you describe yourself as the perfect traveling nurse. You don't sound like you want to buy a house; you want to see other places...

Suggestion:

Keep working where you are; research the (I think the term is) agencies then apply to one of them.

My niece did this and they came back offering the job she asked for; but, it took months...

Which is why I suggest that you keep working.

Good luck,

Mark

Come to Texas. The cost of living is low, and the people are very friendly. There are quite a few nice places around Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. Each have their advantages and disadvantages, but they are still great places to live and work. I'm not originally from here, but I certainly like it a lot. Travel nursing is also a great idea. It would certainly give you a chance to see what a place is really like before you settle there for good. Good luck with your search.

Wherever you decide to move, just avoid Florida. Housing is very expensive, there are no unions, and we have the oldest and sickest patients from all over the US.
