Walden University vs. Maryville University AGPCNP Program

Published

Hi all, I am deciding between Walden and Maryville Universities for their Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner programs. Can anyone give me the inside scope of these programs? I was leaning more toward Maryville, only because it is an actual university with a long history so I feel like it would look better on my CV when all is said and done. Walden was really easy to get into to, Maryville is a process. I am in Maryland and, as far as I can gather, both programs will be recognized by the MBON starting in Jan. 2016 (this has been verified by the Maryland Higher Education Commission -- MHEC). Would love some feedback from current/former students of both programs. Thanks!

I am not familiar with Maryville. However, both universities appear to be private and are expensive. Maryville is >$12,000 per semester? Walden is private and for-profit and I agree would not hold the reputation to employers as another school. I personally would not chose either of these options. Is there a state school in MD that has an online program and offers a less expensive and more credible route to this degree?

Here are schools in Maryland, also if you are in Baltimore, have you looked in the Wash DC area? Where is Maryville located? I found one in Missouri.

I know someone in the FNP program at Maryville, and they love it. I actually was accepted before I decided to go elsewhere.

Take this with a grain of salt, because it's been awhile since I've had to recall this information:

Before you see the 12k a semester, look at the per credit cost. When I talked to the advisor they told me the entire MSN was around 35k. It's done more by per credit than per semester.

To be honest, it was hard choosing between my current school (U of Cincinnati) and Maryville. Both had good solid programs and structure.

I actually have been to both schools. I graduated my FNP with Walden University and now I am at Maryville for my AGACNP. I would have to say as far as the schooling goes it is very comparable to each other. I was given all the learning materials that I needed for the degree, but both of them require you to put in the work. I learned the most in both through my own studying and through work and clinical. School courses just guide you. Both schools are accredited and are well known. I work in Arizona and I have fellow colleges that went to Walden as well. As far as credibility both programs are CCNE certified which makes them creditable.

The reason I choose Maryville for my second degree is because Walden did not have an Acute care degree when I applied or I would have stayed there.

All schools are pretty much the same I work with brick and mortar college grads and online college grads

I didn't realize Maryville had an acute care program? Did that just start?

Sorry just looked it up. That's awesome. And it's like 300$\hr cheaper than SLU. (Where I was accepted) hmmmmm.... Glad I saw this post!

@justin 100784 In your opinion can a student work full time and complete the full time program at Walden? I recently got accepted and I'm trying to figure out if I should go full time or part time. Also any tips?

I was curious to see if you were able to work full time and go to Walden full time?

I am PMHNP at Maryville. I am trying to find out how much group work is done at Walden? There is constant group work at Maryville and video presentations. Does anyone have a syllabus on a class for PMHNP in Waldens so that I can compare and decide is I want to transfer.

I would like to know if Walden or Maryville has the best MSN FNP program? I see some comments but they seem to be a few years old. Does anyone have recent experience with either? Tia
