Anyone submitting an application to the nursing program at WTCC this upcoming July for spring 2017? Wanted to connect with others who may be in my shoes. I'm still working on some prerequisites (TEAS and CNA) but hope to finish them up by May. I will be transferring most of my prerequisites in from another school.
Hey guys!! thanks so much for all the info!! when i was at ECU I had BCBS blue for students which was like $800 a semester, ouch! So i might have to do the single stop WSMom suggested or wait for healthcare.gov when open enrollment starts. I wanted to do UNC as well but for all those programs you have to be admitted to the school itself first and unc is so hard to get into on its own. CN_2bRN919 how did you get your transcript reviewed??
WSMom, CNA one of the other things that the advisor at UNC mentioned was out of the 300-400 applicants about 150 of them are second degree seeking students, and they only have about 20-25 spots for those types of students. We'll see. Right now I'm researching ABSN programs the most and then going from there. The ABSN application deadline for UNC was in August and I didn't apply.
pdlf, CNA, I went onto the UNC College of Nursing website and emailed my transcript to the general email address for questions. I heard back within a day or two.
I have a question for anyone who can help me. I am taking Bio 169 and as of right now I am teetering between a d and f. Should I drop before the drop dead line. If I tried to stick it out and made a D will I lose -20 points? I am just having some personal family problems and I am having a hard time devoting myself to this class. Any suggestions? Thank you for any help..

Gotgifts3, I'm so sorry to hear about that on both ends. If you know in your heart that you can't bring that grade up, then drop. That way it won't hurt you point wise. Its a hard decision but if I were you, then I would drop before the deadline. Also, if you have taken the course and now retaking for a better grade then yes, you would lose 20 points. I hope this helps. Pray about it and get some rest. A lot of times, we have so much going on, that we don't get proper rest. BIG HUGS TO YOU!!!!!!!!! :)
This is my first time taking it. Should I try and if I end up with a D, can I retake it without it hurting my points? It's a hard class, but the teachers for lecture and lab are teaching at wake tech for their first time. I really wanted to be able to apply in January. I'm so confused.
Ok, so I just looked at the online information session. From my understanding, a grade of D or F will hurt your points regardless. It looks as if you receive a D within 5 years of the nursing program entry, then it's -5 points but since it's a BIO course, points are doubled. So, it's actually -10 points and not 20 for a grade of D. It would be 20 points if you receive an F. An example of how it will affect your points is as follows:
EXAMPLE:
2016 BIO 169 - grade of D (-10 points)
2017 BIO 169 - grade of A (add 32 points---but there's -10 points from 2016, so you have a total of 22 points for BIO 169).
I hope I didn't confuse you. You should probably visit health advising or email them your concerns to get true clarification. Best wishes!
Thank you for taking the time to help me. It's such a hard decision. If I could get a C I would be overjoyed. I got an email from Ms.Watkins and she really broke it down. If I got a C with my teas I would have 162 points for fall registration. My luck points will be even higher for fall registration than they were this go around. It's frustrating you work so hard and it's still not enough.
You're welcome! I'm glad that she explained everything to you. As far as points, I wouldn't be surprised about them increasing either. I STILL can't believe they increased for Spring. I retook a course this summer JUST to make sure I got in and still ended up an alternate. We work so hard and it seems they're making it harder the closer we get. Have you taken teas yet? When is the drop deadline?
Hi ladies! One week! I'm excited for orientation! Although I may not be keeping my seat… still kind of up in the air! Hopefully that will mean some good news for my friends on the wait list :) I applied to a couple of Accelerated BSN programs. We will see how that goes! Keep your fingers crossed for me! I should hear back from a couple of the programs in the next month or so and the rest around the beginning of the year! This whole process is stressful! Everything is a gamble!
Praying for you gotgifts3, that you are able to make a wise decision concerning your class! I have been in a similar situation. I actually ended up withdrawing from the course and taking it over the summer. Thankfully I made an A, but when I was in it the first go around, I struggled! The course was not a nursing prerequisite.
gotgifts3 162 is good! First of all, I'm sorry that you are going through a hard time right now. I hope it gets better for you soon. Maybe there's still a chance for C? Some professors drop lowest quizzes or even add extra points before the end of the semester. Try calculating your grades, per percentage. I you can make a B on the exam and the end result would be a C or even a B, then maybe you should stay in the class. If you know that there really is no chance for you to devote more time for this class given with that you're going through. Then dropping the class might be the best option. It is a hard decision, buy I'm sure you will figure it out. Good luck!
CN_2bRN919 I am excited too! I still have yet to get my flu shot. I'm excited for you too! It sounds stressful but I think its really worth it to go and apply for BSN, you could get in and you will be glad that you tried.
