Anyone submitting an application to the nursing program at WTCC this upcoming July for spring 2017? Wanted to connect with others who may be in my shoes. I'm still working on some prerequisites (TEAS and CNA) but hope to finish them up by May. I will be transferring most of my prerequisites in from another school.
2BRN, I did not attend Wake Tech for the program. At the time I was pushed for time because I was pregnant with my daughter whose now 5. The school is called Providence Training Institute on Old Wake Forest Road. It was 3 months, not enough clinical space, so we performed on each other and I was due in September and finished in August and started working at Rex with no experience in December of 2010. My husband already worked there and knew somebody that knew somebody, lol. We've both been here ever since. I do agree Gakpele that it's so hard to get into.
Hospitals now are trying to achieve what is called Magnet Status, currently only 6% of hospitals in the U.S have this "Gold Magnet Status", Rex being one of them . What this means is that the hospital is dedicated to giving a certain type of experience, culture and satisfaction for patients. In order to do that, amongst the requirements, nurses need to have their BSN to be able to deliver a little bit more. There goal is to promote more online training, certifications, etc all by the year 2020.
With that being said, our nurses here who has their ASN are grandfathered in and have a little over 5-7 years to complete. New hires have way less and rightfully so to get their BSN. It's a win-win when you are able to look past the red tape. So my goal is to achieve the ASN on my own, work for a little while, get my feet wet and then do the BSN. I'll sign what ever they want, especially when it promises me a job.
Thanks gotgifts3! That's so exciting that you're finished with your class! Good luck on your exam in August! It's great that you're taking it so close to when your class ended. It'll work in your advantage because you'll still know all of the skills and be able to recall the steps fairly quickly! I was more stressed the days prior to the exam than I was exam day. I was familiar with the set up of the skills portion since I attended open lab at WTCC and I was testing at WTCC. My skills weren't bad at all. I had pulse, bed bath, handwashing, ROM on shoulder, and assist to ambulate. I am sure you will do well! Just take some deep breaths and think positive! Are you testing at WTCC? Was your course at WTCC?
To all of my spring 2017 applicant friends: I talked with health science advising today. I was curious as to how many students have applied thus far. I was told that they are not sure since they have not been keeping track. They will not start reviewing applications until the end of August. Tomorrow is the last TEAS exam before the application deadline, and they predict that they will get more applications after the exam. Also, (I think I mentioned before) the application deadline is now Monday (8/1), since 7/31 is a Sunday. I guess I'm just going to keep telling myself it's probably less than 200 people that applied. This process is teaching me patience all over again lol.
Jpeters247, from what I understand last spring there were 150 applicants. This fall there were 203 applicants according to health science advising. The amount of applicants this fall was about the same as last fall. If I am not mistaken, I think there were 210 applicants last fall. I am hoping that the spring stays around 150. 50 people less to compete with It looks like so far, even with the points change the amount of applicants is still about the same.
Hey Laila, haven't heard any news yet my friend with regards to the CNA exam. Hope all is well!
Hi Jpeters247!! Sorry for the late reply but I've been 1 busy momma this summer. Anywho, I passed NACES and now certified! I also took the TEAS and did well and turned in my application as well! Yaaayyyy!! Now all I have to do is finish this BIO course, August 1st and continue the waiting game. Best wishes!! COME ON SEPTEMBER!!

Yea you have to wait that time period in order for them to contribute. You can definitely get it before then but you would just be paying out of pocket until you reach that year mark.
