Wake Tech Spring 2017 Start

Published

Anyone submitting an application to the nursing program at WTCC this upcoming July for spring 2017? Wanted to connect with others who may be in my shoes. I'm still working on some prerequisites (TEAS and CNA) but hope to finish them up by May. I will be transferring most of my prerequisites in from another school.

Hey guys, It's been ages since I posted a comment on this thread. Was it here or on the "Fall 2015" thread? I think both. How is everyone? so far summer class free months are awesome!! I decided to take my BIO 175 this fall instead of summer and I'm glad I did. Anyway, I submitted my application last week and as I was waiting for my TEAS result, I asked the other students who are waiting too, some will apply with still two pre reqs left, and another one has a whooping 190 points and hopes to increase her point with TEAS. :nailbiting: can't believe that there are so many TEAS test takers this month that they had to add two more TEAS test days for the month of July! I remember trying to schedule on July and all the seats for July 22 and 28 were already full at 9 am. I wonder what minimum requirements they are talking about too. hmmm.

Wow! WSMom, I'm sure it's because everyone is trying to squeeze in the last requirement or two before the application is due in a week! How did you do on the TEAS? Hoping you did great! That is crazy that someone had 190 points! That makes me so nervous! Is she applying for spring 2017? I have 186 but that's WITH the TEAS. I wonder how many other applicants will have points as high as hers! And to add her TEAS points to that... holy cow! I wonder how accurate the 190 is though. I noticed reading threads in the past, sometimes applicants added their points on their own and then later when Ms. BW went back and added them for ranking, their points total was different because she used different classes i.e she might use a different humanities class than you anticipated because maybe the humanity you thought she was going to use didn't exactly meet the humanity requirement. That 190 stresses me out! Praying we all get in! Maybe she'll be the only outlier!

I got 6 points added from TEAS. Oh no, didn't mean to stress you out:bluecry1: I think that the applicant varies. Like I said , some are still working on their pre reqs and still have two classes left yet they have applied. My classmate from A&P have 150ish points and she told me that the students on her summer class who applied this July have 140-150ish points. I have 175 points, and I computed it on my own. Hopefully I did the math right. I didn't sit down with Ms. BW since all my prereqs are pretty straightforward and all from waketech. the girl who have 190 must have all A's on her classes, yes she's an outlier:whistling:

WSMom, that makes me feel a little better hearing about your classmate and her summer school classmates. I keep telling myself that at this point there is literally nothing I can do since I have taken all of the prerequisites. Congrats on having so many points! And that's without micro! That's awesome!! I looked back at the points for fall 2016 (... again lol) and saw that the highest number of points was 210. Crazy to think that someone had 210 points!! Unfortunately, I made B's in my anatomy classes and in micro :( A's in everything else. Praying that everything falls into place. A week from tomorrow is the application deadline!! Woohoo!! We're getting there, slowly but surely!

Hey everyone! I've been following for awhile. With the Teas, I have 150 points. 190+ though?! She's an animal! That's awesome though. I feel like every year, the points requirements to have a decent chance go up, rightfully so. Getting more and more competitive. We'll see though. I'm sure everyone applying will make terrific RN's. Good luck to everyone applying!

Isn't that just a shame that students, including myself, have to worry that even B's in science classes are not really good. I mean yes it's possible, but geesh. I mean aren't half of us full-time workers, care givers of our homes, parents and students. Someone told me getting into the program is the easy part, staying in it is the hardest. B's are better then getting a D or C CN2BRN and guess what, students have made it into the program with D's and C's. I love, or maybe not love, but I find it rather interesting that the same students who have the A's in more classes then they can count, fails out of al class once in the nursing program. A friend of mine who I attend church with will graduate Dec. 2016. She said half of the class is not there. Guess who those halves were. Students with the best grades during pre-reqs. I just don't understand. They look and take the best of the best, but what happens to them once on the other side.

I wish I knew just how many people applied, lol. It seems as though they'll pull from the highest grades possible and continue down the points system until they reach their 70 students. Everything under will be alternates. Seems like a lot of people took summer classes

Yea, it is pretty crazy. I know a lot of my A&P 2 classmates last year had families, jobs, etc and it's tough. I'm a CNA at two hospitals to go along with school and wedding planning this year... Let's just say I was excited for my B's. Lol. This is my 3rd time applying for nursing school but my first time at Wake Tech so hopefully things turn out well.

Congrats on all of the ABOVE, your grades, being a CNA in two hospitals (major experience) and planning a wedding, even on not giving up with this nursing journey. Are those points with the TEAS Gakpele? What schools did you apply to?

Thanks! Yea that's with the TEAS. I didn't do well on it. Only studied for 2 weeks. I tried Duke in the past. It's too expensive for me even if I did get in there. I'm just applying to UNC again and Wake. What about you Jpeters?

Yeah, I'm gonna ask her again if she have other news from her classmates. I really think you have a very good chance to get in:yes:! Have faith. Thank you, a lot of 3 hours of sleep :writing:from studying A&P have paid off, I actually got sick one day, geez. Also, I don't work, so thats a plus, but I need to find a job ASAP. Have to renew my CNA license. Its gonna expire this December and in the application, it says CNA must be current till the first day of nursing class. That 210 points was insane! Again, that person must have all A's or must have gotten a 90 in TEAS. You got 88% right? Thats really impressive! Congrats by the way:woot: Can't believe it's already the deadline next week! Next thing you know, it is September:nailbiting:

Jpeters247, that is so crazy to think about! One of the nurses at work told me that when she was in school, half of her class didn't finish. She attended a community college, but not in Raleigh. I think nursing school is just hard in general, but I think anyone can finish with perseverance and dedication. And sometimes life just happens and it can cause grades to slip, classes to be missed etc. Praying that we all get in.. make it through the program.. and become fabulous nurses!! Concerning the points, I think that is exactly what they do, the top 70 applicants are given a seat... the next 30 or so make the alternate list, and rest unfortunately get a rejection letter. I remember Ms. BW saying that 203 applicants applied for fall 2016.. and the spring is typically less. So we'll say less than 200 ;) She said last spring there were about 150 applicants or so.

Good luck to you gakpele! Fingers crossed! I think you have a great chance of getting in!

WSMom, I hope you are able to easily find a job! The great thing about being a CNA is there is so much opportunity!

Jpeters247 I remember a BIO professor saying that not everyone is gonna make it after the first two semesters in the program. Oh gosh, it really is kinda scary to think. I agree with what you said. This program made "B" look bad when in fact it is really not! I think a lot of people took summer classes too.

gakpele Wow, you have a lot going on! Yay for you for being so great:up: Congratulations on everything! Me too, I drop and pick my son up everyday in preschool after my classes, then take care of him until he falls asleep and thats when I can start studying, normally until 3am. He's starting kindergarten in two months :nailbiting: I'm more excited than him, lol.

CN_2bRN919 Thats what I got the last time. A rejection letter. It's ok though. I know I wasn't ready. Hopefully this time, I get in. I hope we all get in and finish strong!:nurse: Thanks, I am just trying to get better from surgery (which was last week) and then will work on my resume. My neighbor is the head of maintenance in a nursing home, he said he can give me a referral to HR, so we will see.
