Anyone submitting an application to the nursing program at WTCC this upcoming July for spring 2017? Wanted to connect with others who may be in my shoes. I'm still working on some prerequisites (TEAS and CNA) but hope to finish them up by May. I will be transferring most of my prerequisites in from another school.
Ok! If you look at the PowerPoint, it details how they count retakes. I also saw that for the SPRING 2017 cohort, they're counting the "most recent earned grade". It's quite confusing with all the changes they've been making the past 2 years. Also, I'm not sure how many nursing advisors they have but when I called today, I didn't speak to Ms. "BW". I actually spoke to another nursing advisor..won't mention names but it was definitely not BW..lol! ;-)
Hi guys! I just reveiwed the nursing info session PowerPoint...again...lol... and I JUST noticed that the new teas point system won't be in effect until the December 15, 2016 application. All teas scores 71% or better will receive 50 points. I also noticed that the application states the same thing "71% or higher will be awarded 50 points". Great news!! Great news!!
The application still says that, but they started the new TEAS point system with the January 31, 2016 application (so for Fall2016 admission). It's why the points were so much lower for admission compared to previous years. I would've had 194 points instead of the 156 if they were still doing the old TEAS.
Hi MendedHeart! My math that is about to expire is actually a statistics course. I got news yesterday that starting Fall 2017, maths have to be no more than five years old from the clinical application deadline, it will no longer be five years from the start of clinical. Luckily that keeps my math valid for Spring 2017 and Fall 2017 if I have to reapply. I wonder if for the RN to BSN program if they have classes that age out too? Now I'm curious, how are the programs for RN to BSN? I thought most programs were one year online courses. I wonder too if it's easier for people who have a degree outside of an ADN because the RN to BSN program could pull classes from that other degree?
RN to BSN programs has a time limit on the maths too, I think 10 years. There are tons of prerequisites left to do after the nursing program to get into BSN program. After your done, keep going and doing those preqreqs either for AA or AS.
MendedHeart, how did you review/prepare for the placement exam?
I didnt, but I'm a freak of nature lol.
I also graduated nursing school on may 7, got authorization from BON to test on May 8 and took my NCLEX on may 10
Waketech has free only math tutorials, but I can't remember how to find them on the website, you could call the advisor, they should know
I wasn't planning on applying for spring...I really wanted to start this fall. I think if I don't get in for fall I will see if I can start at another school and then transfer in. If I can't do that, I guess I will just have to go with my second choice school. I don't want to have to wait until that December to take the NCLEX...I really want to be getting ready to start my first RN job this time in 2 years rather than in more than 2.5 years.
MendedHeart, I took my placement test today and it definitely was not as bad as I had anticipated. Very basic math. Even though I didn't have to take it, I figured I would to cover all of my bases... and I'd have the score if I ever needed it. I did look at some of the math tutorials you mentioned and a practice exam or two. It took me longer than anticipated... 3.5 hours. By question 50 it became an endurance test lol. Very happy with my scores though!!
Good luck to you Aperegoy! Friday (15th) is your day and don't forget to post your alternate # or your "I got accepted post!". Praying for ya!
Does anyone one know how long it takes for admissions to evaluate transcripts? Do you know the process? Do they email when they receive and complete the evaluation??

Laila34, I'm not 100% sure how it works, but if I had to guess, I think that they only take points from the most recent grade; so if a student makes a D twice, I don't think the -5 turns into -10, I think it just stays -5 because you're only getting points for one grade. If it went to -10, you would be getting points for the same class twice. I think if you take the class a third time and make an A, it's 32-5? But like I said, that's a total guess on my part. You honestly could be right and it could double, because if you make two D's and then an A, you'd have 27 points, which is more than someone who took it once and made a B? So there has to be a catch somewhere.
