Wake Tech Spring 2017 Start

Published

Anyone submitting an application to the nursing program at WTCC this upcoming July for spring 2017? Wanted to connect with others who may be in my shoes. I'm still working on some prerequisites (TEAS and CNA) but hope to finish them up by May. I will be transferring most of my prerequisites in from another school.

Thanks for your immediate response and your research on my behalf CN_RN919!!! I found out that 1 of my bios is good (2011)..whew! However, I took it at UNC and I don't think it's equivalent to wake tech bc of lab hours. I will verify hopefully this week. These bios are very tricky! I am retaking bio 169 over this summer. I'm also taking the TEAS and getting my CNA this summer. I have a lot to do but it can be done with dedication. I just hope that they accept my bio 168 and I should be good. Also, as far as points, I have 156 right now but hopefully I do well on teas and get the extra 20, 12, or 6 points added.

No problem Laila34! Good luck with everything! You sound like you'll be busy but you are exactly right, it can all get done with dedication and perseverance! Is your 156 including all three of your BIO courses? If so I'm thinking you've got this in the bag!! Besides math and bio, do any of the other courses expire or have time limits?

Yes, my estimated points are inclusive of all bios. However, that will change a few points higher if I can get this A over the summer. *fingers crossed*! My points seem low to me considering that I've seen points as high as 180's. I'm assuming they had all A's as in mine are a mix of A's and B's. How about you? Points? Have you applied yet? I'm super nervous and anxious but WE GOT THIS!!! :-)

I'm kind of in the same boat Laila34. My grades are a mix of A' and B's, and after this semester I would have taken all of the pre-requisites. I currently have 156 but that does not include the two classes that I am taking so we will see. Depending on my final grade in those classes, I'll probably, have somewhere between 174-186. I'm nervous as well! Hoping we all get in!! Are you taking one of the accelerated CNA courses this summer? I'm trying to finish up my CNA requirement as well. I finished my class about 3 weeks ago, just getting prepared to sit for the exam.

I so hope we ALL make it Spring 2017 semester. I'm banking on making that 81 or more on the TEAS, which thereafter will give me a total of 159. I'm still on the fence about retaking PSY 150 or 241 to get an A over the summer. I received a B, and Mrs.Watkins doesn't believe it will be worth the extra 6 points. Would you all take another class just to add more points AFTER you've completed everything. I feel like going back over it again after I received what I believed to be a good grade just stinks. Not to mention, whose to say I even make an A in 2 months of a course while trying to enjoy the summer and my kids at the same time. It begins 5/16 until 7/?. My only hopes is getting 91 or better on the TEAS to rule out retaking another class.

Jpeters247, I'm kind of doing something similar. I have credit for SOC 210 but I only got a B, so I'm taking BIO 155 (since they'll substitute that until Fall 2018) hoping to make an A. Right now I'm kind of boarder line--- I have a 92... but I think the extra points are worth it if you can get them. I would just hate to look back and say if I would have retaken something, or done one more class for a couple more points, it would have gotten me in the program. Would I go back and complete a class after I've completed all pre-requisites?? For me, it depends on the class. PSY maybe... but any of the sciences... I probably would avoid that torture again lol. Good luck!!

That's wonderful! With those points, you're sure to get in! Save me a seat :-) Yes, I'm taking an accelerated CNA course this summer from 5/9-6/2. I spoke with an advisor this morning regarding bios. Thankfully, my bio 168 is good; however, I have to retake bio 169 bc its outdated. I took micro 275 instead of 175 which is also acceptable! I can breathe again :-)

I'm also taking the TEAS and reaching for the 91%, so that I can get those extra 20 points. Hopefully with an A in bio this summer and my teas score, it will put me at about 174 or so. Best of luck!

Laila34, I know exactly how you feel! When I was told my math that I took in Spring 2012 would meet math proficiency for both Spring 2017 and Fall 2017 (if God forbid I had to apply again) I was so relieved! Now I just focus on finishing this semester strong and passing the CNA exam. Good luck with your summer class and on the TEAS! You can do it!! Hopefully in the next couple of months we'll be talking about being accepted in the program :)

Does anyone know who actually looks over the applications when they are turned in? Is it all of the health science advisors or just Ms. Watkins?

Thanks!!! Does anyone know how the "repeat" course policy works? Let's say you take a course and get a D. You receive -5 points. You take it again and get another D. Now you have a -10. Then you take it again and get an A. So is it 32-10=22 points??? It's quite confusing. Someone asked but I didn't know how to explain. Does anyone know??

If I'm not mistaken, the nursing advisors reviews the applications. It's not just 1 person. 1 person can't handle processing over 200 applications alone. I'm sure it would be stressful and hard to do without making mistakes. I would say that all the nursing advisors and maybe the dean approves. Not 100% sure though..hope his helps ;-)
