Wake Tech Fall 2020

Published

Is anyone applying to Wake Tech's ADN program for the Fall 2020? How many points do y'all have?

Yes, a bunch of information is listed under the NUR 111 information. I printed off some of the documents for the math test. There is an overview of the test and a book listed that I am assuming is what we will be tested on. I wanted to email the school and make sure that the info is still applicable (as this was all for Spring 2020 class) before I purchased the book but I’m thinking it will be applicable.

It just stinks because in a normal environment, we would be having our orientation next week and would have a few months to prepare but as it stands now, we’ll have one month to prepare. I wish they would have explained a little more of this so we are not bombarded with information and only one month to prepare but this pandemic has put everything in flux so I’m sure this is disconcerting to the school too.

Hi guys, I saw this info in BB and I hope it helps.

The "math test" that everyone is talking about will be from the book Calculating Drug Dosages: A Patient Safe Approach to Nursing and Math by Sandra Luiz Martinez and McCullough (the questions itself might not come from the book itself but you know what I mean)

ISBN 9780803624962

Prior to Gateway Math Session, complete the following units from Castillo book:

Unit 1, Chapters 1 &2

Unit 2, Chapters 3 & 4

Unit 3, Chapters 5 – 8

Unit 4, Chapters, 9 - 13

Unit 7, Chapter 19

Unit 8, Chapters 21 p. 464- 471 & Chapter 22 pp. 480 - 487

They provide calculators for the exam.

Nasogastric Tube Feedings, IV Calculations/Critical Care and Titration of IV Medications are not required at this time and will not be tested.

The date for the Medication Calculation Pre-Test is the first day of class. Those who score less than 80 on the pre-test will be referred to ILC for additional help. Any student who is unable to demonstrate competency with a score of 90% or higher on this test will have one additional opportunity to do so. Students who score below 90 on the second test will not be allowed to continue in the course. We strongly advise that you take this preparation seriously and work continuously with the workbook. The more practice the better. There have been students in three previous classes who failed to do so and were not successful on the pre-test and subsequent tests.

Current NUR 111 students indicate that the Workbook completion of unit exercises is essential. Reconstitution of powder medications and determining dosages based on kilogram body weight are two areas that students find to be the most difficult.

I also saw that the grading system is 7 pts. which makes it a little harder to get A's on grades because this is not going to be all about memorization anymore, and more on application(I think). A grade is equivalent to 93-100 pts.

The math book you’ll need is called calculating drug dosages a patient safe approach to nursing and math. The math info is under the nur 11 course information tab and scroll where it says NUR 11 gateway math session preparation! They will give you the rest of the info at orientation, but I guess it never hurts to get a jump start on stuff! Hope that helps!

Thank you, there is so much info in those tabs that I might have missed it?

Hey guys, I know it stated in our letters that we would get added to the gateway group on BB ... but maybe it's just me, I can't seem to locate it when I log into BB. Any help?

For me, when I am in BB, it’s a link on the right hand side of the screen. Says Gateway to Success Nursing Curriculum. Hope that helps!

Ah OK, kinda figured. Guess I'll get a hold of the school to fix my issue. Thank you.

Hey friends!

As usual asking you before bothering an advisor;)

I was looking at the uniform info and it says that you don't have to order yours from the bookstore if styles don't work for you body type/height etc, but the scrub tops must have wake tech logo on them. Anyone knows how to buy a logo for the scub top? I know its early, but I just wanna get the least important stuff out of the way since we are gonna have only 1 month after the orientation. Thanks

I’m 99% sure you have to get the top from WTCC, but you can get the bottoms from somewhere else as long as they are the Cherokee brand I think.

"Scrub tops must have the Wake Tech Logo. You must come to the store to order emblems and scrubs or send a detailed email!! Check that stores can provide that or simply order the tops from the bookstore. We recommend two scrub tops (royal blue) and two pants (may be royal blue or white - no flare legs). See the attachment for above for acceptable styles and costs. You may shop at any uniform shop for scrubs that best fit your height and body type. The blue pant has to be the Cherokee blue color. Shoes must be closed toe and leather. Accepted colors are white, grey or black. See the Student Handbook related to shoes"

This is what I found in announcements, I guess I'll just email them for clarification (
