Waiting List: Pensacola Junior College (pjc), Florida

Published

Hi Everyone! I am currently completing the last class at PJC pre-reqs and co-reqs. I was notified that I have been accepted and am on board to start clinicals in January. Was curious if there is anyone out there going to be starting at PJC in the Spring also?:nurse: Oh...I have submitted applications to Sacred Heart Hospital for a scholarship too. Hoping to hear from them soon also.

Here are my scores:

Test 361 HEALTH RELATED MATH Score 0027.0

Test 380 NLN VERBAL ABILITY Score 0017.0

Test 381 NLN MATHEMATICS Score 0022.0

Test 382 NLN SCIENCE Score 0052.0

Test 383 NLN COMPOSITE Score 0037.0

I know...not so good on math and verb ability. I panicked because I started running out of time and guessed on a few. I know that the 37 should be 50 or higher. Wow, the Jan classes are already filled? THAT SUCKS. Owell, I just want to pass the damn thing! I would rather wait for a fall seat because of the classes being full than have to wait because of not passing the NLN again....Atleast it wouldnt be my fault that way.

Mike, I am 25 (female), My GPA is 3.02 currently. I don't know if there is a limit on how many times you are allowed to take the NLN..I hope not!

Specializes in Case Mgmt, Anesthesia, ICU, ER, Dialysis.

IMHO, Sacred Heart is a much better place to work than West Florida. Not worked there, but been with family in both places, and been in a position to observe the care given - the nurses are equally good, but SH's seem happier, less stressed and didn't have as high patient:nurse ratios.

Good luck, y'all. Private msg me any time...I've been at this a few years - we Panhandle folks have to stick together. :)

Hrmm...well its ok cope, when are you gonna take it again? You probably just had a bad day...:) I am sure you will do fine the next time. Just start reading everything you can, search online for science stuff, and study your math.I don't really know what else can help you with that NLN...sorry... :( but cheer up! If you want it bad! you will get it!

you know...it sounds almost too simple but I would really suggest you watch Bill Nye the Science guy to improve your science. Science can really be the easiest subject once you understand fundamentals. I love that guy. Go to youtube and see what you can pull up. As far as your vocab I would study the GRE list of vocab words. My husband and I review this frequently to challenge our everyday vocab and it is amazing how fast you will get a handle on new words. Another option that I utilize is online lectures. If you are a visual learner...like myself...those can be such an asset! Anyway, I wish you luck on your second try. I am taking the NLN tomorrow so I am trying to not worry myself sick over the crazy thing.

Mike, I'm taking it again on Sept 12th. Yeah, now that I know what to expect I think I will definantly pass. Thanks for the encouragement guys, and Good Luck "HelloFromCrestview" tommorow on the exam. Let us know how you did! I'm sure you will pass :yeah:

Specializes in ER.

Hi, everyone! So glad I found this thread. I was trying to find info on Florida Community Colleges. Sorry to hijack the thread, but can anyone share with me the pros/cons of PJC ??? Is it very difficult to get in ? I want to go the ADN route but there is only one school here that offers it and it's extremely difficult to get accepted. I am open to relocating, particularly to the Florida panhandle area as I will have family support there if I move. Would love any info y'all could share on PJC and maybe also Panama City CC ??? Thanks SO MUCH!!! (sorry again for the hijack)

Its cool eliz, pjc has been around for years, and as such, they know what they are doing. Although I have firends that say it is pretty tough, it is managable. I am here in FWB and I will be commuting in january for the entire program. There is gulf coast community college in panama city and north west florida state college in niceville, but that one is really hard to get into, if you don't have a 3.5, you can forget about it. if you read most of the previous posts, you can get a good idea on how pjc is...:p

Specializes in N/A.

A new PJC student here...still doing pre-reqs. Did 3 pre-reqs while living in Orlando taking care of daughter after hand surgery. Not looking forward to the commute from Navarre but my two oldest kids did it for 2 years. Have friends doingpre-reqs at OW and they are looking at transfers because of the waits.

Ok...so I just got home from taking the NLN. I PASSED. I was so worried this morning, I thought I was going to make myself sick but after taking the test I must say it really isnt that difficult. I am so thankful that I brushed up on my science knowledge by watching Bill Nye episodes (as I also suggested to someone in another post) because I am amazed at how many questions that I answered using what I had just watched. We all forget some of that stuff unless we utilize or apply the concept often. As for vocab...it was pretty straight forward. I only struggled with the last five or so words. (as most people I talked to today after the test did) I think you have 50 questions that you must answer in 60 minutes. Science there are 80 questions in 60 minutes and I cant remember the number of math.

OH...Mike I thought I would let you know there were about 12 guys there taking the test today. (two had the same questions about male/female ratio as you wrote about earlier). At that rate you guys wont be much of a minority any more ;)

CONGRATS!! Haha, I knew you could do it! It wasnt that hard now was it! :). I like to hear about more guys in the program... :) SO many girls in a class can be a blessing and a chore.:lol2: I havnt heard bill nye in like forever! I am gonna youtube it! :). Did you talk to the test lady about the health related math exam retake? So is the jan class full already? I have heard that it may be, but I have to say this to everyone! Even if there are 110 seats, there is still a chance to get in...because 30-40 people after the 110 still get acceptance letters, and like the august class, 30-40 didnt accept their letter in the first 110, so then the next 30-40 just slid right in :)

NO...I will have to contact her on Mon. They were closed Friday. I really hate that I missed the boat on that one. I know exactly what I did wrong. I was in such a rush my brain wasnt thinking and I was solving the mixed fraction problems straight through instead of making them improper. I couldnt remember how to do it for the life of me in the testing room but when i got home later that day it hit me. OH WELL. Better later than never. As far as the spring class goes the admissions lady did say the number of qualified applicants already exceeded the slot numbers. I think she said there were a little more than 130 (as of Thursday). But I am not worried. If fall is my time than I will be pleased with that as well. I am sure you will keep us posted MIKE as to how things are in the program. :typing

Ohh ya ;). I have 2 friends starting in august, they are gonna give me some much needed insight on the program, so that should be helpful. And sense i will be starting in january, i will try to make some kind of nursing blog on here or on youtube :). I can't wait! haha, I am sure once I start the program and get going with it I will be saying, ugh, i didn't have enough time to prepare haha. So are you from crestview? How long does the dirve take you? see ya :D
