Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone! I am currently completing the last class at PJC pre-reqs and co-reqs. I was notified that I have been accepted and am on board to start clinicals in January. Was curious if there is anyone out there going to be starting at PJC in the Spring also?:nurse: Oh...I have submitted applications to Sacred Heart Hospital for a scholarship too. Hoping to hear from them soon also.

Hey Mikey,

Just wondering if you have gotten your class schedule or anything? I just wanted to know what the average schedule choices are? Also, are you going to be working while in school? I am trying to figure out, if I should, if I end up going. Thanks again for the great response!

Hey whats up buddy :). I will be getting my packet in october, but for my friends that start next month, they had a choice of 8-12 10-2 or 1-5 (i think haha). Either monday tuesday lecture or wed thurs lecture with the opposite 2 days for lab and clinicals. I heard the first semester only has about 3-4 days a week in which you have to be in pensacola. I heard the following semesters are more time. But who knows? Haha, my friends tell me that each semester the hours for class change. So you MAY not have the same class schedule one semester to the next. I think the nights and weekend schedule it the only one that stays the same. But you should call ***** ***** at ********** thats her office. She can give you the best advice :). Keep in touch because I will give me books away to the next class and so on throughout the whole program. :) see ya!

Mikey,

I would love to buy your Books if I can get into the program that would be really helpful! I am very excited! Can I ask you why you wanted to get into Nursing? Thanks again, I am enjoying your feedback very much!

 Hey Noel :). I would not mind at all keeping my books for you. I have a scholarship that pays for books, so maybe it can help more than one person . I know I got into nursing because the schedule is flexible, more job opportunities than my previous engineering degree, fairly good pay. But for the most part, I got into nursing because I love learning, I am a people person, and there is so much room for advancement. I will be a CRNA one day ;). By the way how old are you? I am 23, and a MALE haha. Did you schedule your NLN and health related math exam yet?

Hello again. I am 23 and have a previous degree in Social Sciences. I have a wonderful state job right now but I have always inside wanted to do Nursing. Just a scary thought jumping into something totally new. If I get into PJC I will def. try to apply for scholarships, I know Sacred Heart and West Florida Hospital have some kind of work scholarship, I think. If you know of any, let me know I would really love to attempt to get one, it would be a great help. I currently do not work in a health care field so I am not sure how many scholarships I will even be elgible for. I have not scheduled the tests yet, I will need to get on that!!

Defiantly cool buddy ;). Ya get those tests out of the way, the NLN is a joke, everyone passes pretty much, and it has no factor into getting into PJC other than completing one portion of your admission requirements. For example, some schools have a ranking value to candidates that score higher on the NLN. PJC dont do that ;). I am gonna e-mail you my private e-mail. We can chat more in depth on there ;).

Hello everyone. I am so glad I found this site! It has really helped my nerves! I am taking the math test tomorrow and the NLN this Sat. I do have all of the pre-reqs out of the way but I am just worried about this NLN. Does anyone know if the JAN 2010 class is full? I read a few posts that included some that were already seated...maybe you can guide me. I have been trying to call and speak with someone who knows for about two weeks now but can not get a return phone call. I know she is swamped with calls so I am hopeing one of you can answer my questions. Also, what does the math test consist of?

Hey whats up buddy. The NLN is so easy...and the health related math exam is 35 questions, you have to get 26 our of 35 to pass. I don't think the jan class is full yet, but i will private e-mail you and then we can chat unrestricted on my e-mail.

Hey guys, sorry to but in! I live in Pcola and I am currently attending PJC as well. I have taken all of my prereqs to get in the program and currently am finishing up College Algebra this summer. I took the Health Related Exam in Sept of last year and passed on the 1st try with a 27. My problem is that freakin NLN . I took it this pass march and scored a 37 out of 50. I am sooooo stressed out about passing because I am scheduled to take it again on Sept the 12th and I MUST pass it to try get in for the spring. I dont want to have to wait 6 more months and get booted to fall 2010. Mike do you have any advice since you think it was so easy? To be honest, I didnt really study the first time and missed it by just 13 pts but I have been trying to study but it is so hard because you dont know what questions you will get ESPECIALLY for the vocabulary part. I am just afraid that I wont pass it again and my dream of getting in will be pushed back even further. Sorry for the long vent but any advice to ease my mind would help  I have the book too. Thanks

Hey whats up cope, I didn't think it was to hard, but eh vocabulary was crappy. I didnt even know what most of those words were, so best guess here I COME! haha, but I got really high on the science part because that was my previous field. How old are you? If you don't mind me asking? Male/female? Just trying to get a feel of the people starting. I do know that yuo can only take the NLN twice in your lifetime, unless they changed...I got like an 80 on it, the composite score...I don't know if there is a good chance to get in the january class. I think they are full, but you never know :). Whats you GPA? If you are still waiting to get in, start taking classes for your bachelors like chem, comp 2, humanities, things like that to kill the time ;). I too have the book, and felt like it didnt help me learn anything that I didn't already know.

Oh ya, isnt the composite score out of like 120 or something? not 50? are you sure you didnt pass? Did you check your spyglass? Goto your spyglass and look under transcript, and at the top it should have your scores for each portion of the test. The last score is your COMPOSITE...Hope this helps you! Msg me back ok! :D

I believe you are right about the spring class....the count is already pushing into next fall. I have all my prereqs out of the way as well but went to take the math test yesterday and missed it by two points :( I am taking the NLN this Saturday but hope I will do ok. Does the NLN report break down what sections you didnt quite make the cut in?

Umm, its not like that...if you have an overall composite score of 50 your good. here read this

Test 361 HEALTH RELATED MATH Score 0026.0

Test 380 NLN VERBAL ABILITY Score 0053.0

Test 381 NLN MATHEMATICS Score 0088.0

Test 382 NLN SCIENCE Score 0069.0

Test 383 NLN COMPOSITE Score 0079.0

This it what you should see on your transcript link in you spyglass once you take the test and wait a couple of days, (these are not my scores and I changed them) so the last score is your composite. The school looks at this score to see if you get in or not, as long as its above 50, your good! As far as I have been told...by sarah from PJC.
