Waiting List: Pensacola Junior College (pjc), Florida

Published

Hi Everyone! I am currently completing the last class at PJC pre-reqs and co-reqs. I was notified that I have been accepted and am on board to start clinicals in January. Was curious if there is anyone out there going to be starting at PJC in the Spring also?:nurse: Oh...I have submitted applications to Sacred Heart Hospital for a scholarship too. Hoping to hear from them soon also.

Specializes in ER.
Its cool eliz, pjc has been around for years, and as such, they know what they are doing. Although I have firends that say it is pretty tough, it is managable. I am here in FWB and I will be commuting in january for the entire program. There is gulf coast community college in panama city and north west florida state college in niceville, but that one is really hard to get into, if you don't have a 3.5, you can forget about it. if you read most of the previous posts, you can get a good idea on how pjc is...:p

FWB is actually where I may end up !!!!! How bad is the commute to PJC?

Haha, the commute is ok I guess, depends on what time of day. But, be fore warned, that the drive to and from pensacola is extremely dangerous. People die on highway 98 at a rate of 1-2 deaths a month that I hear of. I don't watch the news, but the number of accidents are also outragous. Its 55 in some places, and people do 75 easy out here. So ya, not to freak you out ;), its a really nice drive tho...:yeah:You could also drive up to I-10 and take that west. It takes me about an hour to get from hurlburt field to pensacola. And its always faster coming back, I have no idea why haha. So ya do you wanna know anything about fwb?

Yah the ride from Crestview isnt that bad. It is pretty much a straight shot. It takes me from start to finish (in mild traffic) one hour to get to Warrenton Campus. I just put on some nice tunes to drive with and I am good.

Fort Walton is a nice area from what I have seen. We just wanted to maximize our buying power as far as square footage on our home so we opted for Crestview. It is crazy what they charge for homes there and its just down the road. The biggest down side is there just isnt any shopping in Crestview (besides WalMart) and the traffic can be a nightmare when everybody is getting off of work from Eglin. But I can deal with it.

Thats what I have been hearing. I just drove from fwb to pensacola yesterday, and it took me almost an hour exactly on 98 to get to the warrington campus. My wife and I thought about buying a house down here but we are gonna move once I am done with nursing school ;).

I am so excited there are more people on this thread! I am signing up to take my NLN in August. I will definetly be trying to watch Bill Nye. I have not done science in a long while and really want to pass. I am shooting for the Fall of 2010 class, but we will see. Is there anyone else shooting for the fall of 2010? Does anyone know where I can study Vocab for the NLN? Also, does anyone plan on working while attending school? Also, I was wondering if anyone is switching careers or a change of major to nursing. I came from a background in social science! Thanks so much, I enjoy reading all the posts on this thread, it has been helpful!

I studied the GRE vocab list. I try and pick a few words each week to memorize and use daily. I put them on a white board (where I can see it often) and it really helps me. I scored very high on the vocab (my highest score-by far) and I have to attribute that to keeping this habit. The list can seem overwhelming when you view it but if you break it down into groups of five words you will get through them rather quickly. In just a short time you will find yourself becoming very familier with words that you never would have considered using...it will also become easier for you to dicipher those crazy words on the NLN

I am planning on attending Fall 2010. From the looks of things that is the only option so I have sort of adjusted my schedule accordingly. Since I am finishing my BS this semester, I will try and pick up chemistry, A & P II and microbiology- (previously taken but didnt include a lab for some crazy reason). I have all of the other classes out of the way for BSN. About working...I am not going to. Going to school and keeping things going at home with little ones can be a challenge in its self so I am opting out of work until I am finished with RN.

:wink2:HellofromCrestView,

Hello! yes, that would be very challenging maintaining a household as well as full time school. I will have to try that vocab suggestion! Do you plan on getting your RN then doing a bridge for your BSN? I am taking A&P1 in the fall. That will be my last pre-req. I will finish that in December and apply for the fall of 2010. Hopefully It will not be full! I will have to get a GRE book, so I can review the vocab as you said. How long is the NLN ? Thanks!

the nln is like 3 hours long, but you get breaks.. ;) Thnx for the tip on the vocab! I want to study for the GRE as soon as I can!

Yeah...just took nln entrance for pjc this past weekend...and your score is based on the composite "percentile" score on the part that says "ad" and it must be over a 50...i only need to now take the health related math test and about another 2 weeks in my college algebra class left~and that is it until getting accepted in program..not sure why i waited this whole time to take all these test.because i have been so stressed out. Hopefully the rumors about there being 138 applicants and only 110 seats left for jan and 139 applicants and only 110 seats for august are just that rumors...

blackerry,

I would hope so. I would love to start next fall, but I will not finish my pre-reqs until this December! Hopefully so! Where are you from? When are you trying to get in for? I also must take the health related math test. Let me know how you do!

I just talked to the testing lady and she said everyone MUST wait 90 days to retake health related math. :( So I guess I will have to wait until then. Noel you dont even need a GRE book...there are lots of free online sources that provide lists. I would just print them out so you can keep them handy. As far as the stats on applicants that Blackberry spoke of.... I dont think that is possible. Having just spoke with the admissions lady last Wed or Thur she said there were around 130 "qualified applicants" on the waiting list. That would mean 110 or so would get positioned for spring and the few that still remain would transfer to the fall list. I suspect if your application is complete by December, chances of gaining a slot for fall are high. :nurse:

Well, let me rephrase that...Blackerry I think maybe what the person may have meant to convey was that there are that many applicants...by far this doesnt mean they will qualify. Alot of people put in an application but fail to meet the standards to gain admission. So maybe they misunderstood or misstated the situation. Otherwise we would all be a bunch of sitting ducks wasting our time. :(

*At least for our sake lets hope that is the case.
