Waiting to get into a nursing school

Hi I am from Luzerne pa I went from my rn to bsn at a local college and when i applied (3 years ago) i was accepted and started classes fairly quickly. what type of school are you trying to get into, good luck i wish you well :) :) nec

I've been done with school... Since Im from Pittsburgh area, went to the University of PIttsburgh. I was just wandering where everyone else is that they have to wait to get in. All I did was appy and get accepted..no waiting list...

They have waiting lists here of up to a year or two. People take advantage of that wait to take the coreqs like A&P, English, etc.

The area isn't committed to nursing education. They need more instructors, they need to pay those insturctors more to make it more attractive. It's a vicious cycle. Instructors get burned out so quickly from working with so many students that they are training who will graduate and make more money than them.

It's going to take a big commitment by states and some time to change this. I don't see that happening. It's a shame with the "nursing shortage" that so many people are waiting to get into the program.

I went to a community college that was first come, first on the list and I didn't have to wait, but that was a long time ago in another state. I understand they now have a waiting list.

i'm from ohio and the wait here is typically 1-2 years for both ASN and BSN...

LPN program you can get into fairly quickly as they start 3 times a year.

the problem here is that for such a big state we don't have very many nursing programs, and the ones we do have only take 20-40 student per year and only start once a year.

you live in PA and went to school in PA right? big state but they have a WHOLE LOT of programs...hence the reason i've applied to a couple in your state. soooo that being said, i'm hoping that it's fairly easy for me to get into one of the programs in PA seeing how i do not want to wait 1-2 more years just to stay in OH.

if you go to allnursingschools.com and do a search of RN programs for the US, PA has the most on there!!!

I applied at Penn State and am still waiting. I actually sent in my application before this years classes started but the said they were full by Febuary so I was hoping that my early submission would help but I am still waiting. I just checked my application status and it says they have sent my reply in the mail so I am literally waiting for the mail to arrive.

It is just as the others said, the schools that offer it (RN), only start a new program once a year and only take a small number of people so it's hard to get in. I am really nervous that I won't be accepted and then I'll have to start all over again. I've been out of school for 13 years and I've decided to take some mommy time and do something good for myself so when all my kids are in school I can have a good career! Hopefully (fingers croosed) that letter will be a good one!

My sister who is two years older than me got in pretty quickly! She applied after I did and started her pre-reqs last week! At a different college about 2 hours from me.

Wow... I know if I turn my head in any direction (in Pittsburgh) I could see at least 10 different schools within a 10 mile radius! We do have a lot of schools even more if you include LPN and medical assistant training and other allied health

I live in the Raleigh NC area and the wait is terrible! Went to an information session for an adn program at a community college and the wait is 2-3 years. I have most of my prerequisites so this stinks!
