Waiting for Decision Letters from Schools...

Published

Hello,

I'm writing to see if you can share some advice with me... I've applied to two entry-MSN programs, four BSN post-bac/transfer programs, may apply to several RN programs at community colleges, and am just starting to feel really disheartened... I've just heard back from one school (Seattle University - entry-MSN) and didn't get in. I'm just worried that this is the way my other applications are going to go.

My undergrad degree (6 years ago) was in art - and I don't have health care experience. I've been working at pre-req's, have volunteered, and am at a loss of what else I can do. If i were to apply all over again next year, I dn't see how my appeal is going to change.

Is it better to try a LPN program and move up the ladder from there?

I feel like this has been my focus for so long now, and i'm disappointed. Just trying to come up with a plan B, etc...

Thanks for any help, etc.

Don't be discouraged. You still haven't heard from the other schools yet. I was an art major too before. I thought I never was going to make it, but I studied really hard and made a high GPA on my pre-reqs. I was accepted to a BSN program that is one of the hardest to get into in our area. People still wonder and say," you went from fashion design to nursing?" I love it though, and I am graduating with a BSN in May. So don't give up!

Congrats on almost being done!

Can I ask where you ended up going?

It really is tough in this region.

Thanks for the encouragement....!

Thanks:D I ended up going to a University in Houston. (I will PM the name of the school) It is also very difficult to get in here as well. I had a 4.0 GPA on my pre-reqs when I applied. I had a friend that took pre-reqs with me, and she made ONE B in her A&P II class and she did not get in.

I think it is hard to get in any reputable BSN school. But there are schools that are less competative - schools that don't just look at grades.

Good luck:idea:

Please don't give up. I, too, got into a competitive BSN program. I thought it would never ever happen, and after one deferment I was ready to call it quits. But, here I am in second semester. So keep pushing, keep applying and never give up on your dreams. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!:heartbeat

MSN programs tend to be more competitive than BSN programs. RN programs at community colleges tend to be the most competitive since most people opt for that program. Have you considered schools from other states? I used to live in WA and eventually moved to CA because of the education opportunities.

Since you've only heard from one, just hang on in there and wait.

Just want to add that I still find it surprising that people are applying to mulitple nursing schools (related to getting your RN license), interviewing, writing admission essays, waiting on decision letters, and so on. I applied to one nursing school and didn't think twice about it. Got in, got out. All of the interviewing/essays/decision letters is what I experienced at the graduate level.

When I decided to go to RN school I did massive research for schools all over the country. I was living in Reno, NV at the time and the schools there are competitive and I didn't think I had any chance. I researched extensively and decided that a community college in Las Vegas was my best bet. I applied and got in the first time. I was not a 4.0 student in my pre-reqs, so it is possible to get into a school without a perfect GPA. I might have been able to eventually get into the BSN program in Reno, but I didn't want to wait and retake pre-reqs. If you really want to be an RN and schools are competitive in your area definitely think about moving. It was definitely the right move for me. Good luck!
