Hello!
I'm a recent grad from an out-of-state school. I just got my BSN in the beginning of May and applied for the CA RN license by examination in mid-March. I haven't received my ATT yet and I'm starting to get anxious! I know some grads from local CA nursing schools have already received their ATT weeks ago.
If you could share with me about your timeline that would be great! Anyone in the same boat as me?
Thanks!!
So i just called BRN again today and the processing time for licensed by exam is still the same 3/1-3/15.He said to call back tomorrow for any changes. The rep asked for my SS# and looked up my application he said that all my stuff including final school transcript are there. For out of state students the fingerprint card takes a little while and usually about 4-8 weeks from the time sent (mine it's been over 12 weeks) and he said they might be having some delay...but he shoot an email to the department for an update and told me to call in 2 weeks..
@Nursingtrend101 i would suggest call them and ask if your fingerprint went through because he said no matter if your stuff is complete if fingerprint does not go through they can't proceed..hope this helps.
Hello All!
Another AN member outriton posted this link to complain/make suggestions about Ca BRN processing times: Public Comments, Complaints, and Suggestions - California Department of Consumer Affairs
Apparently, if enough people complain to the Department of Consumer Affairs, then something will finally be done.
Related, earlier this week I spoke with a manager at Ca BRN who told me that processing times were running roughly 18 weeks. As of yesterday, there was an update to the processing times which stated that they were "16-18 weeks." And then the processing times column was taken down altogether.
Something to keep in mind (that I was told) is that "processing times" means that is when they first look at the application, not when ATT is given. So, in other words, once they look at your application, if there are gaps (i.e., things have been misplaced as they have been with mine for several items), then they let you know your file is missing something. In other words, it takes more time from then.
As of early 2014 The LA Times ran an article that talked about the glitches BreEZe was causing (employees were having difficulty adjusting to the electronic system, which was in turn causing processing delays--processing times grew from the previous 6-8 weeks to more than 90 days...as of right now 17 weeks is way beyond 90 days). At that point, the BRN got an additional 15 people shifted to their office to help them catch up. My humble suggestion is if enough of us submit a complaint to the above link, then maybe something will be done and the BRN will get some help to catch up to a more reasonable application review timeline. It can't hurt anyway.
For anyone who is interested, these are the 2014 LA Times articles (the second article is linked in this one):
Computer system upgrades delay licensing for nursing graduates - latimes
I don't know about the rest of you, but the BRN is going to cost me my job if they don't start catching up.
Hi secondlifen2b, I received your PM! Unfortunately it seems that you have PMs disabled, or for whatever reason it won't let me respond to your message. I decided to go ahead and just post my reply here, as the information I have was posted publicly in the "Timeline for endorsing RN license to California" thread anyway.
This is what I used to file a complaint: How to File a Citizens Comment/Complaint About The DCA - California Department of Consumer Affairs
I filed my complaint on Tuesday night, received a response from both the DCA and BRN Wednesday morning (my date on BreEZe also changed on Wednesday), and received my ATT Friday night. Oddly enough, the following Monday the processing timeframe changed from February 16-29 (my timeframe) to March 1-15 after having been stuck there for four weeks, so I'm not COMPLETELY positive that my complaint helped or if I was due to receive my ATT anyway. However, filing a complaint using that link seems to have helped other posters in the past.
Thank you, Vegas Volt! I will certainly try that . . . I've posted an anonymous complaint, but perhaps including my information will help my case along. Thirteen+ weeks have passed and I was told earlier this week that it would be "at least another 4-6," which will definitely guarantee me losing my contract. Ugh.
@nsul1990, thanks for the suggestion! I called and my finger prints are in the system. All they need now is to evaluate my transcripts.
@secondlifen2b, thanks for sharing the article and the link! I agree that this processing period is extremely long and that we are losing job opportunities because of this back-up! It is frustrating to be stuck in the system.

Nursingtrend101,
call this number ONLY if you're testing in California. Press option 1, then option 2. You might have to call more than once, usually it will tell you "due to high call volume...blah blah" just hang up and keep calling using the options above. Eventually you'll hear "please hold for the next representative" this is when you'll wait on hold for a while usually between 10-30 minutes. Once you get through to them ask them the status of your application. Be advised, you'll probably have to call them many times before you'll get through, usually when I call, it takes me a good 15 tries to get through. Good luck.
