I love in TN and fresh out of nursing school and passed the NCLEX. starting pay is $17.50 for RN in the ER. Too low? I'm very greatful for the opportunity. It's a dream job!

It's full time with zero benefits!!!!

That's crazy! What kind of hospital doesn't offer benefits? I would definitely think long and hard about it as I was applying for other jobs.

It offers benefits I chose to not recieved them. I will be covered until janurary

At mine and my husband's jobs, if you don't take benefits when you're first hired, you can't apply until the next open enrollment period which, for both of us, is June/July. So you could potentially be uninsured for several months.

My hospital used to offer a different pay rate if you didn't take benefits since they're saving money by not paying for benefits but they did away with that last year because of the Affordable Care Act.

Well insurance isn't a big deal in my case. So I don't desperately need it

Wow, that is pretty low because I'm an LPN new grad and I started at a LTC making $19.50/hr and I live in Chicago. How is the cost of living in TN?

They should be giving you a higher rate for declining benefits. If you can afford to do it and just want the experience and then go elsewhere then go for it.

I'm a new grad in TN and I make $19 an hour. That's what most all of my classmates got also. This is hospital pay too. Hope that helps.

I'm in Tennessee and from what I hear the hospitals in my area start new grad RNs around $18 with other areas starting higher. I work at a group home and RNs here make $20.25. I've been an LPN for 12 years and I make $18.50 with my differential. The cost of living in TN is low.

I just did a quick glass door search of some hospital systems in my area (east TN) to see what their salaries say. Covenant: $17-$26 Tennova: $18-$23 UT: $18-$24. I'm not sure how accurate glass door is though.

New grad in Ohio-LTC base pay $20.90 with $1 shift diff.

Specializes in ICU /ED.

I'm a new grad in Michigan and starting pay is 27.50 hospital base. It's really based on your area and cost of living.

Woah that is low. Techs in our hospital make around $15. $17 in the ER is just a slap in the face!!
