I want to volunteer abroad and am looking for a good organization to go with.Has anyone else volunteered abroad? As well do they let LPN's/RPN's volunteer abroad, or is it mostly RN's that they are looking for?Any help would be appreciated.

There are numerous organizations to volunteer overseas with, and yes, they will allow LVN's to volunteer. A great way to get connected is through:doctors wthout borders; imb.org; mercy ships. You can also google for volunteerism and pull of opportunities. I recommend connecting with a group that is going for a medical clinic, especially if this would be your first time. Amazon Outreach is another organization that holds medical clinics up and down the Amazon River in Brazil

This is awesome!Thank you for the websites!

Ask the Chiefs of Medicine, Surgery etc at your local hospitals

if any of the Docs in your area lead a medical mission yearly/twice yearly.

One in our area started as a mission for Eyes and docs of other specialties

and some of their staff and families signed on.

They go for about a month once or twice a year.

Good luck and thanking you in advance for your service.

jahra is right, there are lots of docs in my hospital that go places.

I went with the So. Baptist International Mission Board, also go to Mexico once a month with a local church group.

Funny enough, the first time I went was in response to a magazine article (Better Homes & Garden) about a children's home.

Some of it depends on how long you want to go for; I went for a year the first time. Mexico is a weekend a month. Teaching was a 6-9 week jaunt.

check out sichange (dot) org!! A lot of my friends volunteers abroad with them and LOVED it! You work promoting HIV awareness and in clinics with HIV/AIDS afflicted patients and family in rural Tanzania. Seriously, check it out.

Also, Friends of Amani might be another good source. They have a children's home for street kids in Tanzania. And, you are welcome. Feel free to ask other questions and I'll be happy to respond. Maybe send me your email?

If you want to volunteer in the US, my best experience so far has been with Remote Area Medical Lots of my friends have gone to Haiti with samaritians purse, but I personally would never work with any group affiliated with Franklin Graham, so I can't speak from experience, but my friends have found it a good experience.
