Visitng Nurse Service NY

Published

Specializes in TB nursing/ research.

I am in my final semester of an ADN program and if all goes well I should graduate in May. I am currently doing some research and found out that VNS NY has an internship program for ADN grads. Does anyone have any more info about this program, or anyone working for VNS out there?

Thks very much

They are hiring new ADN grads. Contact there human resource manager. My mom works for them per diem. It's a great organization, just an enormous amount of paperwork. I don't know about internships but I do know they hire new grads & train them.

Last year I went to the open house for the internship. It sounds really good at first. I think the internship was only a week or 2. At the end of you you had to decide if you wanted to go through their bridge program for ADN's to work as a visiting nurse. I forgot how long that bridge program was. They said that bridge program was geared to give you the experience as a new grad you would have gained in a hospital / med/surg. Personally imho, it was not for me because you HAD to work with them full time, during the day (no 12 hr shifts), plus you needed to commit to work with them I think a year. Also, fresh out of school as a new grad I wanted the hospital experience before venturing out as a visiting nurse on my own. I'm sure it was a great internship, but I would rather get experience in a hospital and then eventually work home health care. That's just me.
