  1. Hello all, I am new to travel nursing and this would be my first assignment. I signed up with multiple travel nurse agencies. One in particular I really like their staff and they have been excellent! Five stars!! They submitted to a hospital for me last week. Then I just got a phone call from another agency this morning that said they would also submit for me to the same hospital! How does that work? Does the hospital choose which agency to work with when dealing with me? Or is it whoever submitted first?? Is it better to have more than one place to apply for you for the same position?lol Sorry for my rant! Thanks in advance!
  2. Here is the story. I wanted to try out travel nursing specifically for the housing voucher benefit. So I got an email from white glove agency about open med/surg position in NY. When I spoke with the recruiter, she said the rate would be $36/hr for a 13 week assignment. Then I asked about the housing. She said that their agency does not pay for housing for local nurses, only if your coming from out of state. Is this true for white glove? Also, $36 for a "travel nurse" seems low to me, especially if they are not giving housing. I know of NY nurses who do travel assignments in Ny and have housing vouchers. Please advise.
  3. Thanks SarasotaRN and Bklyngurl! I got the job at North Shore and will be in Glen Cove in the med/surg department. Start next week!
  4. I decided to go to North Shore- LIJ. It's a good health system and the pay and benefits are decent. I was leaning toward Maimondies which is another great hospital. I did not hear back from Methodist. It's a beautiful hospital. I was reading some threads here and spoke to some nurses, and it didn't sound to good patient/nurse ratio wise. Don't know about St. Lukes. Go for it if they have an open interview. I find that's the quickest way to get to HR. Good luck!
  5. Last year I went to the open house for the internship. It sounds really good at first. I think the internship was only a week or 2. At the end of you you had to decide if you wanted to go through their bridge program for ADN's to work as a visiting nurse. I forgot how long that bridge program was. They said that bridge program was geared to give you the experience as a new grad you would have gained in a hospital / med/surg. Personally imho, it was not for me because you HAD to work with them full time, during the day (no 12 hr shifts), plus you needed to commit to work with them I think a year. Also, fresh out of school as a new grad I wanted the hospital experience before venturing out as a visiting nurse on my own. I'm sure it was a great internship, but I would rather get experience in a hospital and then eventually work home health care. That's just me.
  6. Congrats to you! That's awesome!
  7. Took it the first time and failed at 75 questions. Went to Kaplan, did the class, q-bank, q-trainer and averaged at that time on the Kaplan test 65%. Then passed second round at 265 questions. The number of questions you get do not indicate whether you pass or fail. Trust me!
  8. i really feel for you all. i took the test and failed the 1st time and know what it's like to go through everything and be let down. i know what helped me pass the second time was (god for sure) and the helen feuer nursing review cd's and review questions. i took kaplan before the 1st time, did all the q-bank and question trainer questions, went to the class and failed with 75 questions. second round i actually got a few questions from the helen feuer on the nclex. i also did all the cram exam review book questions, which also had questions on nclex. i did 150-200 questions daily and listened to the cds while in my car, doing chores, and sleeping..lol. did not schedule for the exam until i got over 80% consistently on all exams. passed with 265 questions..lol i know several people who failed and then passed using learningext. when i learned about it, i already got helen feuer home study review and it was more than i needed. also anxiety is a huge factor. take lots of breaks and pace yourself. i took about 4 breaks. and don't tell anyone when your taking the exam. this way, you don't have to go through the whole "did u pass?" questions. :angryfire: don't give up and know that you are not alone. this does not reflect on your ability to be a great nurse.:redpinkhe: :pumpiron: i almost forgot..as soon as i got infront of the computer and started the test i wrote down on the eraser board they gave me all the lab values, abg rules, anything that i needed to know that i might forget to answer a question..lol that helped because when i froze i just looked at the paper. good luck!
  9. Oh wow! That's great..thanks! :)
  10. Stalking is such a harsh word. lol. I would call it a gentle nudge!
  11. I had interviews with Lutheran & Brookdale. Went to North Shore LIJ open interview last week and South Nassau' Community's today. Also went for second interview for North Shore today. Maimondes is scheduled next week. I Thank God I heard from people, cause I needed to start working from yesterday! I spoke to faculty/students in my nursing school and found out where people where getting hired. That really helped. AlsoI faxed all my info (2 letters of recommendation from instructors, transcript, cover letter, resume). And I seriously followed up with recruiters and kept names and dates of when the resume was sent, who I spoke to, etc. I feel you on city hospitals, can only imagine!
  12. I also graduated from a ADN program and passed the boards two weeks ago. The day I got my results I sent out my resume and have been to 4 hospitals for interviews so far (2 were open interviews) and one scheduled next week. I guess your in Brooklyn, thus the name.lol. You should apply to Maimonides & Lutheran. They hire ADN's for sure among MANY other hospitals in your area. I applied to NY Presbyterian and literally the next day I got a rejection email saying "Due to NewYork-Presbyterian's high volume of new graduate applications, the preferred candidate will have: Externship or Clinical Rotation experience at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital, Bachelor's Degree, minimum GPA of 3.0, and clinical experience independent of nursing school clinical rotations." I have the externship experience at another hospital, 3.6 GPA, and a non-nursing BA, so there you have it. Avoid hospitals that prefer BSN's for now. Like Mt.Sinai, MSK, and NYP. Hope that helps!
  13. I hope your right Rain Dreamer :) Thanks
  14. Congratulations Nicolio! That's great news :balloons: I just checked and my results were still not up! The suspense is killing me! :uhoh21:
  15. Awe..Nicolio, I feel your pain. I get my results tomorrow and can't go to sleep. Just the whole blood, sweat and tears to get to this point. Try to keep yourself busy, watch a funny movie and have a good laugh....do whatever to calm your nerves that works best...lol
