visa retrogression

Published

Is US currently open in recruiting nurses from the Philippines? There is visa retrogression in the Philippines. Does that mean that any sponsoring agency or hospital cannot recruit nurses from there, but can sponsor nurses from other countries that are not under retrogression?

I understand your point of view MedSurg32RN, and I believe that situation is not so easy for any nurse over there. But look at the other side of the coin: if an american nurse would like to go overseas, she will also have to pass a language exam and get a license in order to work in a specific country, and nobody requires her to graduate a nursing school in that country. It is the same procedure like working in the US for any foreign nurse.

Not true Some states waive the exam if the school teaches in English.

It doesn't matter what prestigious nursing school graduated that nurse, she will only need to fit the requirements for working over there.

Maybe it is not so fair as you say, but I just want to point out that there are also good nursing schools in Europe as far as I know and good nurses too. Sounds like a cliche, but that's the fact; I have many years of experience as a nurse in my back and I can tell this. I also travelled to different countries and talked to foreign nurses and not only and I tried to make a picture of the situation in general. The economic situation is damaged everywhere in this world, but this thing doesn't make us forget who we are or blaming one another for reaching this point in our life.

Of course there are wonderful schools in every country. But most countries the state has some standards to open an maintain a school.

Complaining is not a solution also. We have built this society and now we live in this world. Moreover it is quite difficult to make laws to please eveybody in this world. And so we reach this point asking ourself if "this is fair or not?"

Ok, I'll bite, what country are you in and would you welcome nurses from other countries to take jobs away for the residents.

Well there are a lot to say but I may deviate from the subject, which I already did, as it is about visa retrogression . I didn't mean to sound harsh or offend anybody , but I am angry with what is happening in my country too.

Be angry with your country, please if you are not American, the residents owe you nothing and there should be nothing to be angry with the US about. Why would I be angry with ( choose any country of your choosing) since they are not employing Americans ? Should I be angry at England or the Eu since they are not giving preference to US Citizens ? How about Canada, Should I be angry with them since they are not employing US nurse now ? It is a global world after all.

THat's why forget about working in America. They already have enough problems as it is and I do not see any chance that they would hire foreign nurses when in fact they already have a lot of U.S.-trained unemployed RN's who still can't get into a RN position (i dunno why, the 'recession' maybe?)...

In my opinion, they should already stop the NCLEX exam here in the Philippines. It's a waste of time and money. Because it is obviously fruitless.

Besides, there are a LOT of other countries that are willing to accommodate competent local nurses. Don't keep your hopes on the United States alone.. Please.

Why should they stop the NCLEX in the Philippines? They will still collect their money and since the US is a capitalistic country, they will squeeze money out of anybody that is willing to pay. Personally, I agree, they should be up front regarding NCLEX and let them know that they're going to be waiting about a decade in order to have a chance at a visa. I don't think they really need the NCLEX testing centers anywhere outside the US since there is no need for foreign nurses right now.

Exactly.

I rest my case.

The situation is very bleak. Forget about immigrating to the USA. Nursing enrollment in the Philippines is now down, and that's a very good sign. People are waking up that the American Dream of working in the USA is doomed. Just look at the unemployment rates in the USA, it's just getting worse with no end in sight. And the USA is not about to make this worse by bringing in foreign RNs. Expect the VB to stay below 2005 until it becomes unavailable again even before 2010. Better go to other countries.

Greenjungle, I think you hit the nail on the head. No one know how long this situation is going to continue. More US new grads are unemployed, it will take awhile for things to turn around for the US to import nurses.

Well then, the NCLEX testing center and U.S.- affiliated job agencies should stop their operations and leave the country. Don't you think? They're just making a lot money by giving out false expectations. And my unfortunate countrymen are suffering for it?! Please... Go do it someplace else.

And like I said my fellow nurses, go and look for other countries, other opportunities for your nursing career.

Well, it's the responsibility of your "countrymen" to investigate their own chances at immigration before expending money chasing it.

FYI, those people are in it with those money-hungry mongrels..

And they're even willing to put their own people in harm's way for even MORE money.

Typical...

Unfortunately, there are folks out there that have no idea about nursing and visa retrogression it does not matter where the nurse comes from, only the training, education, ability to practice and knowledge of that nurse, that what it counts, and that is it. It is demand and supply, there were too many applicants for residency green cards in the last few years, so of course a backlog or retrogression will take place and will delay for many years the green card. It is a fact that well trained nurses are needed everywhere, Canada, Usa, Norway, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and other place.

This game of blaming others because the economy is not doing great, it is just stupidity and lack of intelligence, hopefully most people will know the facts and investigate the real causes of the recession, I wish all the nurses the best and keep making a difference in your pt's lives, I love this profession even with some of the problems.

We have Mr. Bush to thank for the recession. It has nothing to do with nurses or any other profession.
