Is US currently open in recruiting nurses from the Philippines? There is visa retrogression in the Philippines. Does that mean that any sponsoring agency or hospital cannot recruit nurses from there, but can sponsor nurses from other countries that are not under retrogression?
THat's why forget about working in America. They already have enough problems as it is and I do not see any chance that they would hire foreign nurses when in fact they already have a lot of U.S.-trained unemployed RN's who still can't get into a RN position (i dunno why, the 'recession' maybe?)...
In my opinion, they should already stop the NCLEX exam here in the Philippines. It's a waste of time and money. Because it is obviously fruitless.
Besides, there are a LOT of other countries that are willing to accommodate competent local nurses. Don't keep your hopes on the United States alone.. Please.
Why should they stop the NCLEX in the Philippines? They will still collect their money and since the US is a capitalistic country, they will squeeze money out of anybody that is willing to pay. Personally, I agree, they should be up front regarding NCLEX and let them know that they're going to be waiting about a decade in order to have a chance at a visa. I don't think they really need the NCLEX testing centers anywhere outside the US since there is no need for foreign nurses right now.
The situation is very bleak. Forget about immigrating to the USA. Nursing enrollment in the Philippines is now down, and that's a very good sign. People are waking up that the American Dream of working in the USA is doomed. Just look at the unemployment rates in the USA, it's just getting worse with no end in sight. And the USA is not about to make this worse by bringing in foreign RNs. Expect the VB to stay below 2005 until it becomes unavailable again even before 2010. Better go to other countries.
Well then, the NCLEX testing center and U.S.- affiliated job agencies should stop their operations and leave the country. Don't you think? They're just making a lot money by giving out false expectations. And my unfortunate countrymen are suffering for it?! Please... Go do it someplace else.
And like I said my fellow nurses, go and look for other countries, other opportunities for your nursing career.
Unfortunately, there are folks out there that have no idea about nursing and visa retrogression it does not matter where the nurse comes from, only the training, education, ability to practice and knowledge of that nurse, that what it counts, and that is it. It is demand and supply, there were too many applicants for residency green cards in the last few years, so of course a backlog or retrogression will take place and will delay for many years the green card. It is a fact that well trained nurses are needed everywhere, Canada, Usa, Norway, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and other place.
This game of blaming others because the economy is not doing great, it is just stupidity and lack of intelligence, hopefully most people will know the facts and investigate the real causes of the recession, I wish all the nurses the best and keep making a difference in your pt's lives, I love this profession even with some of the problems.

Be angry with your country, please if you are not American, the residents owe you nothing and there should be nothing to be angry with the US about. Why would I be angry with ( choose any country of your choosing) since they are not employing Americans ? Should I be angry at England or the Eu since they are not giving preference to US Citizens ? How about Canada, Should I be angry with them since they are not employing US nurse now ? It is a global world after all.
