visa interview experience at new delhi

Hi guys, finally the long awaited day finally came. Heres the details

Reached new delhi embassy at around 8:30 am, our appointment was at 9 am. On first sight i was baffled at the number of people allready qued up. But when i reached the check point i realised there ia a seperate que for the immigrant visas, and there was to my surprise no one in that que. We were asked to directly go inside the embassy. Since i diddnt bring our cellphones or for that matter any thing other than the required documents, the security check took less than a minute.Once inside the lady (very polite) asked for the appointment letter and asked us to wait and sit down at the waiting area. After about an hour or so around at 10 am we heard our names being called and we reached the window. The man was an indian and appeared a bit stiff. He asked us to fill in the address column(US address) in our ds 230 forms, and i told him we didnt have a permanent address in USA as of now, but he asked us to fill in the name of the sponsoring facility, which we did.He than asked for a photocopy of the visa screen certificate and updated job letter. After that it was a a sort of a mini quiz for all of us. He started to ask a few questions to me an my husband regarding our date of births, marriage dates and daughters birthday. He even asked the name of my husbands grandfather, and i felt a bit embarrased when i diddnt come up with an answer. He then smiled back and said to go back and wait again.

We felt a bit hungry there and had a few snacks at the cofee outlet inside the waiting area( a bit expensive though). We waited for another half an hour and our names were called again. This time it was an american man(extremely polite), asked us to raise my right hand for the oath. Then he asked us to sign the ds 230 form part 2, i signed for my daughter. Then he asked me and my husband to put our finger in the machine for fingerprinting.

Then he asked me the following qustions

1) How long have been a nurse and where.

2)was i currently working

3)What kind of patients do i get and work with?

I answered all of them. Then he asked my husband what he was doing and would he pursue the same profession in the US.

Then he looked up and said" all the documents seem to be in order, you will get the passport by courier in a weeks time.. thank you"

I just couldnt believe it was over. By 11 am we were outside and smiling our way back home.

A very special thanks to Ms Suzzane who has been a guiding light through all these years that were spent waiting. I have been through two retros and one lousy employer .

Any way new chapter is beginning and we really look forward to do our best....

for all those waiting i know how it feels , but there is always a day after every night, how so ever the long the night may be........

thanks

any questions for me i would gladly answer........:balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons:

Thanks Suzanne and silverdragon. I hope to continue seeking your help in the times to come.........thanks

Mpoova ur interview is next month, best of luck and keep us posted.Any questions you want to ask please let me know. One thing more he also wanted the evidence of passing nclex apart from cgfns original certificate. (thanks suzzane again here for reminding to take that along).I took the printout of the pearson vue account page showing the "pass" in that.:balloons::balloons:

Chocolate, Again Congrats to the new green card holder!

Thanks for the wish to My interview!

But All August interviews are cancelled. Many here watch as another fiasco for us in Kuwait as US Embassy at Kuwait rescheduled interview for some candidates at random in the month of July iteself! Unfortunatly I missed that chance.

And I hope we all here at kuwait will have right and just chance next time!! and I do keep in mind your guidelines for interview. Thank you so much.

Thanks suzzane for your input. Massachusetts forum is a good idea.

Mpoova, i can understand how you feel. But you are at the very top of the waiting line and hopefully things will open for you in october. Are you really sure your interview got cancelled, i mean, once scheduled its unlikely to get cancelled. All the best...

retro sets in

Interview on july 25

visas on july 28.

I am looking for some guidance regarding what to bring to usa, travelling tips and other relevant details. Kindly guide what forums to look in.....thanks.I am going to state of Massachusetts.

Congrats chocolateRNN...Now I am really confused on how the USCIS and NVC decides who gets to be interviewd first. Maybe the embassy in the Philippines are slower because based on your post your PD is July 2006 and case completion before retro is Oct 2006 but you were still scheduled for July 2007 interview.

People from the Philippines have Nov or Dec 2005 PD and case completion before retro of Aug 2006 but still no interview until now.

Did you submit a new updated DS230 last June? when was that completed?

This is really confusing.

Depends on country. X amount of visas are allocated and depending on demand depends on when visas are allocated. The OP is from India and the demand must have been slightly lower than what the demand is for the Phillipines hence them getting an interview. It also goes on place of birth so doesn't matter if living in another country it will always go on place of birth

As Anna stated above, it is not which US Embassy is slower at all, it has to do 100% with how many visas are given to those from a particular country. All 100% based on place of birth and not where the person is living.

The visa interviews that were done in July were not routine appointments, but based on when the file was actually completed, not just the PD date. USCIS was only trying to get some completed petitions out of the way that were just sitting there.

Look at the shear number of people in the Philippines that have to go thru the interview process, even just with family-based petitions. The numbers are huge, and expect it to get worse for there, not better.

Since July visa bulletin is current worldwide, PD is not applicable, it depends upon completion file and the scheduling of interview by respective US consulates in the month of July. India has more than one US consulates, and conducted more interviews in the month of July than other countries.

It was really luck that I-P approval in one months time. Since the case has already been transfered to New Delhi consulate on Oct-30, 2006, there is no need for updated DS230.

Not correct. In most cases, they are going to ask to see the updated DS-230. And that is the reason that we have seen many here also get asked for the updated DS-230 even there was approval last year. The form that was submitted is now expired and is now longer valid. And it will not be accepted at the US Embassy, they are going to want to see an updated version, just the same as you need to bring with you an updated contract from your employer.

I would recheck that with your attorney. All others here have had to resubmit their DS-230 and would hate to see you not get the approval at the interview because of this. If anything at least have an updated copy with you.

Sorry, but that is not the case. It is not strictly done by when the case was completed. The PD is still playing a part in it, whether I agree with that or not. And it does not matter how many US Embassy offices that are in a country, the issue is how many visas were assigned to those that were born there. Selection is still based on that, not just a grab for anyone. There is still an allotment prototype that needs to be followed.

Your country was just trying to get them done so that they would not get cancelled, but not because there are more going thru there. Just not the case.

And even for those that have interviews in Kuwait, those interviews are based on where the nurse was born, not where they are currently working.

Just because they rescheduled them, it does not meant that they will all get to have that date and get things done. Visas are no longer current and that is why many already scheduled interviews have been cancelled. Alot is going to depend on the PD date as well.
