Veterans Affairs Healthcare Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP) 2018

Published

Just curious who all applied for the Health Professionals Scholarship Program for the VA this year (2018). I know it's early...mine is still shown as "received." Also, if any current or previous applicant/recipient can share their thoughts on this scholarship program of the VA as information on this is limited.

Thanks!

Congratulations!!! Have you been selected the Valor or the HPSP ...Again...Congratulations!!!

What year/semester are you in your NP program. I want to send you are pm but, you have to have 15 comments on allnurses before I can do that.

Does anyone who received the scholarship in the past have any information on placements? Very anxious and excited to know where I may end up!

Do you mean clinical placement or actually placement of 2 years of services? I am a new 2018 HPSP scholarship recepient. I inquired about clinical placment last month I was told you have to find your own placement with the VA hopefully you would receive preference with the HPSP Scholarship otherwise if unable to get clinical rotation this will be waived. If anyone else has any other experience or information I would like to know also, thanks.

I completed the program and can speak to this. During my program I was unable to do the clinical placement requirements due to time constraints, so it was waived. In terms of placement, I think we were placed all around. I had interest from Chicago, SLC, LA, Minnesota, and Texas....went with Texas:)

Much also depends on specialty, if that matters to you. There are a couple new grad programs limited to area (one in Tampa, for example). I was focused on getting my specialty so location was less important to me.

Specializes in Neuro med/surg.

I am currently looking for programs to help with graduate tuition. I am current enrolled in a PhD program for nursing and start this fall. Can anyone tell me how to apply for the Veterans Affairs Healthcare Professional Scholarship Program for 2019 and if they accept doctoral students?

Hi there. For HPSP I assume the do PhD but not positive. In theory, these would be clinical positions with which you'd repay the scholarship with 2 years in a clinical placement. I think it's closed for 2018, but USAjobs is where you apply to the program and they usually open it back up early in the year (feb-mar?) from what I recall. Hope that helps!

I was def referring to job placements after graduation. If you don't mind me asking, what specialty did you start in, and what area of Texas?
