Just curious who all applied for the Health Professionals Scholarship Program for the VA this year (2018). I know it's early...mine is still shown as "received." Also, if any current or previous applicant/recipient can share their thoughts on this scholarship program of the VA as information on this is limited.
Thanks!
Hi. I am an hpsp scholar as well. I graduate in December and would love to ask you a few questions about the placement process. Applications, locations and interviewing.
Did you have to apply for jobs on USAJOBs or were jobs sent to you by the placement coordinators? How closely do they try to stick to your top 5 location options.
How close to graduation do they start working on placement and when did you get your job in regards to graduation.
I completed the program and can speak to this. During my program I was unable to do the clinical placement requirements due to time constraints, so it was waived. In terms of placement, I think we were placed all around. I had interest from Chicago, SLC, LA, Minnesota, and Texas....went with Texas:)Much also depends on specialty, if that matters to you. There are a couple new grad programs limited to area (one in Tampa, for example). I was focused on getting my specialty so location was less important to me.

Hi there!
In terms of applying, you won't go through usajobs. Once the feelers go out, the individual locations will contact you for interviews. How closely they follow your top 5 depends on really what your top 5 looks like. They focus on high-need areas, so if these are your choices already it will be closer than someone who puts, say Denver and Hawaii Still, I didn't end up in a top 5.
They start putting the word out in the month or so around graduation, but you can't get any offers until you take your nclex and have your license. I had some interviews prior to that, but everyone said the same thing-call us after you get your license.
This is how it worked from me- it can certainly differ for you.
Hope that helps!

By the Grace of God, I was just notified today that I was selected for the Scholarship. I am very excited for the opportunity.
Hi, I applied for the HPSP program. How are things going? Are you now working for the VA? Thanks.

It's hard to guess where you could end up...just depends on the needs that are there when you begin looking. I had interest from cities all over so we really could have ended almost anywhere. (Then again I'm mental health, not ICU which I assume is much more limiting)
Hope that helps!
Hi, I applied for the HPSP scholarship and curious to know once selected, what’s the next process? After you pass the NCLEX-RN do they select a specialty for you or is that your decision to make? Will the 12 month residency be in the same area/location where the individual will be required to work 2.5 years? Thank you!

I have gotten into the HPSP program for my final year of undergrad BSN. Is there a list of facilities we can go to? How do we find out potential locations to work at?
