VERY FRUSTRATED!! New Job, maybe?

Hi all,

I am in a bit of a bind right now..

I got offered a job in a Special Care Nursery in the hospital where I am working per-diem as an ER RN. The trouble is I got offered this job a month ago and I have not heard anything further from the clinical manager who offered me the job.

I was on vacation in the caribbean when HR called I got the job offer and was told to email or call the clinical manager when I returned. I emailed the clinical manager the sunday I got back and she was on vacation for a week. Never returned my email when she returned from vacation. I called her about 20 times and got voice mail everytime so I left a phone message. No response to that. She then went on vacation again last week and I called HR out of frustration because I feel like I am being left in limbo. HR told me to call the other manager, which I did. She knew nothing about the hours or when I would start, but gave me a tentative date and said the the other manager would call me this week when she was back from vacation again.

Its the middle of the week, I emailed again, and still nothing. I can't give my notice to my current employer until I am sure of the hours etc, but this manager doesn't seem interested in getting back to me.

Should I just forget the job offer and move on? I have been trying to get this job for two years now and I finally get offered the job, but again that was a month ago.. I am just really confused and I feel like my life has been put on hold over this!!

I wouldn't put in notice yet.........things are tight out there........Do you really want to work for such an irresponsible manager? I would be really nervous. If it is not that she is a bad manager......is HR or administration jerking around the hours? First she gets them then they pull them......I'd be careful. Even if they ante up and give you a start date.......stay perdiem where you are......just in case....Good luck

Walk up to the NM's office door and knock on it. If she's not there, ask the staff working on her unit if they know where she is or when she will be in.

I just don't think I should have to do that. I am rarely at the hospital and I don't want to make a special drive just to do that, nor should I have to! I will give it till Monday and if I hear nothing I will tell them to forget it!! This is an awful way for a NM to treat a new employee if I am still a new employee?!

I am so aggravated with the whole situation! It would take her two seconds to reply to my email and at least have the manners to let me know what is happening!

I guess it depends on how badly you want the job.

I received a job offer like that. I was "hired" in November, but no one could ever give me a start date. I called, emailed, just like you. Nothing. Finally, mid December, I emailed her that January 4th sounded like a great start date and I would see her then, unless otherwise notified.

I got an email back within the hour! She had been sick with the flu and had been out for 3 weeks. Only came in to check her email. Said I could definitely start January 4th.

Just a few short years ago this would never happen............

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON OUT THERE???????

I have seen more bad behavior in the last few years in administration and management. Years ago this would never be tolerated...........I am so sick and tired of the attitudes!!!!!!

AS an ex manager/administrator.......I gotta tell you......I would be very cautious taking the position. either she is not a good manager or......the actual hours are in flux of being approved. Which means the position may not be stable. YOu could take the job and the next budget pow-wow.....poof! pink slip! Proceede with caution!

Good luck! I can telll this is an area you want to navigate too!

Thanks Esme...

I was thinking that may be the case with regards to what you said at the end of your post, about the hours being in flux and whether they are being approved. I think I would be ok taking it since I could just fall back on working on the ambulance again..

I am going to call her tuesday and leave a message, if I do not hear back by wed. or thursday I will once again have to call HR and figure out what is going on!

Thanks

Happy

You mentioned the other manager gave you a tentative date, did that pass already? I'd call & email both managers on Tuesday and state you will be there on the tentative date unless told otherwise. Or maybe going to the office isn't such a bad idea, you'll get to see the environment and maybe get a feel for or see what is going on.

Keep us posted! Good luck!

Thanks CG,

I FINALLY heard from the manager today and found out the job will mroe than likely only be 24 hours which means I need to be guaranteed two days off a week so I can stay on the ambulance 24 hours a week. So any way she said that is not possible to guarantee particular days off, so now she is checking whether she can squeeze another 8 hours in so I can take the job, otherwise its goodbye nursing! I will have to stay on the ambulance, not that I mind, cause I love it, the money just isn't as good!

So still in a holding pattern. She was a little upset that I wasn't all set to start next week, but hello, you can't call me a week before I start to fill me in and expect me to drop my current employer and start!! GRRRrrr
