Hi!
I have read on many of these threads, from Suzanne and others, that the vermont centre is the fastest in processing, and they recommend getting initial licensure in NY for this reason, then endorsing to a state of your choice.
One thing I don't understand.....yes, vermont is the fastest processing for IMMIGRATION, so how can this help if endorsing to another state as the petitioner would be outside the NY area...........I.m really confused, can anyone clear this up for me? (wanting to live and work in one of the southern states)
Sorry if this has been covered before

It does not matter which state you have your initial licensure. What is important is which state your Employer (Hospital) is. If you are planning to move to south, mostly you will under texas service center which is very slow on immigration processing.
One of the reasons why NY is recommended is that they dont require CGFNS Certification though NY will conduct its own SPECIAL credential verification with the help of CGFNS.
Eventhough many other states also dont require CGFNS, NY is preferred because they dont have rules like License will not be issued until you get your SSN. Many nurses who are already in USA are in dependant/Visitor visa they are not eligible to get an SSN.

The good thing about NY is that they will actually issue you a hard license as soon as you pass NCLEXC which allows you to endorse to almost any other state. With California, you cannot endorse until you actually have a license and they will not issue it until you have a SSN#, which means that you are literally stuck if you decide that you want to move somewhere else.
There are only five processing centers in the US. If you go to http://www.visapro.com you can get the listing of states under each processing center. Sometimes it can be faster just to go to the east coast for a year or two and then move south. Many have done that also. Just depends on how big of a hurry that you are in.
Thankyou for your help, everyone.
It is you people that have given me the confidence to go it alone- without an agency. I have finished CGFNS exam and visascreen so can't face applying for NY's special cert. If I am going to apply to TX for an employer, the NY license may run out before I get there anyway. And moving east first, before moving south will be even more unsettling for the kids, so I think I will be here waiting for quite some time yet.
Thankyou for all your info!!!!
Some nurses are just in a hurry to be working in the US, whatever it takes. If not, just proceed with what you were doing................

hello everyone..i would really love to work in California but my friends advised me that i apply in vermont because processing of NClex application there is quite faster and it doesnt require SSN compared to california. then i will just apply for licensure by endorsement later.. my question is..do i have to work in vermont for quite sometime before i can apply for licensure by endorsement?you see, CA is really my choice but it would take years before i can get there so im planning to try vermont..please advise me whats the best thing to do. would it take me longer if i apply in vermont because i have to work there first before i can do the endorsement?
your answers will be highly appreciated!

NO, I dont think any state will have to require you to practice there before they will do a license endorsement. You only have to pay the fee and comply with the required documents. In the first place, how can you practice there if you dont have the license to practice in that state?
if i am going to apply in vermont for NCLEX..it would mean that i will be licensed in vermont if i pass the NCLEX..after passing nclex there and having the license, i will apply for visa screening..after giving the required documents, they'll issue me the visa screen certificate..but before i could have a green card, i should have an employer in vermont(since i am already licensed there)..once i have an employer to petition me and work on the immigration stuff, i can then go to vermont. i am expected to work in vermont because i have an employer who petitioned me..so i have to work there first before i can do the endorsements or else i will be sued for breech of contract..
thats what i think of what will happen if i try vermont and do the endorsement to california upon stepping on that state..thats why im so eager to know if i should work in vermont and finish the contract first before i can do the endorsement..please correct me if my thoughts are incorrect..
thank you for any corrections and informations you guys can impart..

You don't ever have to work in Vermont in order to endorse the VT license to California. However, if you have a contract to fulfil in VT, that's a different story.

If you are saying that you already signed with an employer in vermont that will sponsor you, you really have to work there as stated in your contract. Unless you buy out your contract(Possibility?). Im sure that there are a lot facilities in california willing to sponsor nurses, regardless of the state they are licensed. But to endorse your license in california can actually be done at anytime when you are already working in vermont cause you will have your SSN by then and that's what you need to have a CA license. Just my opinion.
im puzzled..if i am licensed in Vermont but i want to work in CA, i just have to do the endorsement, find an employer in CA and work on the immigration stuff so i can get to CA?please correct me if im wrong..assuming that im correct, what should be the first thing to do..find an employer or do the endorsement?please help me with this..thank you for any reply..
