Well it was very easy to get in. But I wanted to finish school faster which is what made me decide to go there. I know people who are doing nursing there and they say that the program is good. Harder, since it is accelerated.
I transferred in 11 classes from my CC which brought down the cost from $130,000 to $95,000. I know it's still a lot but I thought it through a lot before deciding to come there. It's a private school and they don't get any funding from the government.
I hope the professors in my next term are better quality than my professors now. If not, I will have to reconsider.
WCU was on my list but as I did more research, I heard more things like you mentioned and the cost also was crazy too, so I shyed away.
Did you pay for the whole 3 years up front or are you paying term to term? Is there a way to get out of the contract? I would think there would be considering that you are only in your first term. If there is a way to get out maybe look into WGU?
HTH!
Contract?
Three years up front?
$95,000?
Cr@ppy instructors to boot?
I nearly choked on my sandwich. I wish the government would stop backing student loans for places like this and then they would go away. The reason the community college had such wonderful instructors is because they have standards and the teachers are there because they want to see students learn. The for-profit unis just want your cold hard cash.
What contract are you guys talking about? Students can withdraw from the school if they want to.
But yeah, the cost is something that I have thought about before coming there. A lot of people are really negative about the cost of attendance but then that is why some people choose to go to WCU while some don't. How much I pay for my school is no one's business because I am (and my parents) are paying for it, and not anyone else.
I really do hope that the quality of professors improve in my classes next term. I would hate to leave the school and then find another school to transfer to. Everything else about the school is great, it's just the professors right now that are giving me doubts.
Well, it's not that it's nobody's business, because everyone knows how much WCU costs. Why did you choose to go there instead of a regular nursing school? I hope that your professors get better too, but I have read a lot of threads about WCU, and I've never heard many good things about the professors or the administration.
If you really hate it, then you might want to start applying for other nursing schools while you are in attendance. That would give you some options if your situation doesn't approve. I've also read that WCU isn't WASC approved, so if you want to go to grad school afterwards, your classes or your degree won't transfer. Aside from the cost, that doesn't sound like a very good deal.
Whoa, it's getting a little heated in here. Let me clarify what I was trying to say. I definitely wasn't trying to attack you or say anything bad, just trying to help you out.
When I toured WCU, I was told there is an agreement (which is a form of a contract last time I checked) that you sign when accepted into the school. Heck, all colleges have you sign something to protect their butts--if you don't perform up to their academic standards they can kick you out, if you fail to pay tuition, they can kick you out, consistent disorderly conduct, they can kick you out etc. And on most school agreements there usually also is a time frame where you can withdraw where you won't loose all your money & things like that (usually before the term starts or first week of school). That's the "contract" aspect of it all that I was referring to.
Why wait? Why spend anymore money on a school that isn't meeting your expectations? If you don't feel right, trust your gut instincts & get outta there now.
Please let us know the end result. Good Luck!
Hello: I have looked at that school too, and yes the prices are very high, but there is a BIG reason for going there no WAIT! I mean you can work your butt of in CC and then still not get in to their nursing programs, or be wait listed for 2 years, when you have 1000s of people competing for 30-40 spots I can see why you might look else where even if it cost a lot of $$

Ok I just have to vent. It is my first term at west coast university in LA after transferring from my CC. The classes make me feel miserable. My biochem professor is Indian and it is very, very hard to understand him due to his thick accent. My chem professor in my CC was also Indian but he was bearable. But this Indian professor at WCU is possibly the worst professor ever!! To give him some credit, he is nice and very knowledgable about biochemistry - that is, if he can even get his points across to his students! I don't have a problem about reading off of Powerpoint slides, but he literally flies through them! I feel like he is not contributing to my learning. I have to learn it all by myself. Even during lab, nobody knows what they are doing because they can't understand him. At my previous CC, we were required to make lab protocols prior to attending lab. This is such a joke.
My other class is Cultural Pluralism. The professor is OK. Reads off of slides which is not a big deal for me. What bugs me though is that the professor is not too knowledgeable in this subject. His subject area is psych, I don't get why he is teaching this subject. They should at least get someone who has a sociology degree.
I was so passionate about learning in my previous CC. I loved to learn. Most of my professors were amazing. They were very knowledgeable about their subject areas and had plenty of experiences about the courses they taught which they shared with their students enthusiastically. They inspired me. It's depressing how my professors are so far at WCU. I hope not all of the professors are like them.
