Ok I just have to vent. It is my first term at west coast university in LA after transferring from my CC. The classes make me feel miserable. My biochem professor is Indian and it is very, very hard to understand him due to his thick accent. My chem professor in my CC was also Indian but he was bearable. But this Indian professor at WCU is possibly the worst professor ever!! To give him some credit, he is nice and very knowledgable about biochemistry - that is, if he can even get his points across to his students! I don't have a problem about reading off of Powerpoint slides, but he literally flies through them! I feel like he is not contributing to my learning. I have to learn it all by myself. Even during lab, nobody knows what they are doing because they can't understand him. At my previous CC, we were required to make lab protocols prior to attending lab. This is such a joke.
My other class is Cultural Pluralism. The professor is OK. Reads off of slides which is not a big deal for me. What bugs me though is that the professor is not too knowledgeable in this subject. His subject area is psych, I don't get why he is teaching this subject. They should at least get someone who has a sociology degree.
I was so passionate about learning in my previous CC. I loved to learn. Most of my professors were amazing. They were very knowledgeable about their subject areas and had plenty of experiences about the courses they taught which they shared with their students enthusiastically. They inspired me. It's depressing how my professors are so far at WCU. I hope not all of the professors are like them.
lil miss, I'm starting 4th term and I must say things to tend to vary quite a bit from campus to campus. I'm in Ontario and have had great professors and admin. I have a Bachelors from CSUF and I actually feel my WCU profs are better. I do have to say that the speed and intensity of WCU courses never change and there is a level of stress that just never seems to go away, but hey, that is what we signed up for right? Also, once you start nursing, most of your professors will be actual RN's.
Hang in there, I'm sure things will get better.
wow I am shocked by your experience! I attend the Orange County campus and love it! My professors and the admin are wonderful! Maybe think of transfering if you can? I have never regretted leaving a CC for WCU. I was so tired of the teachers and the waitlists. I took physio at a CC and dropped due to a horrible teacher and thick accent. Took the same class at WCU and was surprised how much I learned! This term is almost over! I'm sorry for your situation hopefully it gets better! We will know soon about the WASC credit so maybe you will be able to transfer classes out.
I'm currently attending WCULA as well and had the same professors that you speak of... I was disappointed too and frustrated that I was teaching myself in Biochemistry. At least I got a good grade..?
I'm just hoping that things will start to get a little better once I start nursing core classes next term.
