So I was laid off last month. Still waiting to get my application for COBRA insurance. I called the number to ask them when it was coming and asked them how much it was going to cost to have me and my husband on COBRA....$1,000 a MONTH just for medical. Seriously??? My unemployment check will not even come close to covering that, not even half! I am not in favor of Obama Care, but today I am seriously wishing some one would come up with a reasonable universal health care...Take my job away so I have no income and expect me to pay THAT for insurance...what are they smoking?
Yeah!Tell it, sister...
Sure, it's all good here if you feel like just making some stuff up ---really, it's not a problem----but for goodness sake,
rudeness can not be tolerated!
Rude?=NOT OK
Lyin'?=not so much an issue
Not sure if I understand but I'm of the opinion you think that those that don't agree with you are lying. Please.. misinformation and lying abounds on both sides of this issue. :)
say what???? do you have a source for that? the only thing i have heard (and i've been following the debate closely) is the idea of paying a penalty/fee if you don't carry insurance. i've heard nothing about sending anyone to jail, and suspect this is another fabricated "scare tactic" from somewhere on the right.
during an exclusive interview with abc news' jake tapper today, president obama said that penalties are appropriate for people who try to "free ride" the health care system but stopped short of endorsing the threat of jail time for those who refuse to pay a fine for not having insurance.
under the house bill those who can afford to buy insurance and don't' pay a fine. if the refuse to pay that fine there's a threat - as with a lot of tax fines - of jail time. the senate removed that provision in the senate finance committee.
you can read more here:
so at one point it was in the bill. kellyp374 isn't really wrong. i have to read the link i got before i can tell you what the current penalties are. i'll get back to you.
and as far as picking on the baby boomers..ha! i was born in '62, i have seen a recession where there were stacks of applications at mcdonalds. i have been laid off twice. my husband has been laid off twice. when i was young you only had medical insurance for major stuff. you paid cash when you went to the doctor or had tests. i vote yes on every school budget...my husband who is younger and not a baby boomer votes no.
so it isn't good to make sweeping generalizations about any generation. many think the young generation is lazy and self absorbed. i don't believe so..i have seen many actions by this generation that fills my heart. i have also worked with a lot and they are hard workers.

You have the option to continue your healthcare with COBRA-you would be paying what your employer was paying for your premium-they bore the majority of the premium while you were employed. You can generally find a higher-deductible plan on your own that may be cheaper. COBRA is not your only option.

Well, I just thought I had this quirky tendency where I usually disagree w/the kind of folks who seem to lie a lot.
But why split hairs----what you said works, too.
It is what it is and all that..
Fwiw, obviously I could've avoided the use of 'lie' here as it was simply the irony of the post that struck me so funny.
Still though, wow...
To be a 'talking point'!

Quite possible we all feel that way. Like I said, I believe they exist on both sides. :) Just wanted to make sure you didn't think everyone that disagreed with you was...uh...stretching the truth.
Ok, this is about the 3rd time I've repeated this..but how come not agreeing with "Obama care" is the same as not agreeing that reform needs to happen? Its not Obama's way or nothing. And actually it is hard to really say whether or not I agree until I see the final plan. Pushing something through because something needs to be done is no improvement. Once the plan is approved and put in effect it will be just as hard to change it again. I want to see us do this the right way. I've seen some good and some bad in "Obama's plan".So tell me, how can you suggest that you agree with a plan that is not really a plan yet.
BTW I'm not specifically picking on you, you just were the last to comment on this.
Do you really think that if this initiative is stopped in it's tracks (Republicans: "Let's stop this and start over") that anything will really ever be passed? I don't. It's a deliberate stalling tactic on the part of senators who are in the pay of the insurance companies. They don't want reform - period. This is a way to kill it for good. Like I said earlier, previous admins have tried to get this pushed through but to no avail. If we don't finish this now, trust me it won't happen at all. It's called politics. Another thing - maybe we should quit calling it "Obama's plan". It's like anything - a group effort. If some choose to stand outside of the process and try to stop it because it goes against what the insurance companies want, that's their problem. I am fortunate - I now have good med insurance thru the hospital where I work. But that wasn't always the case - I still remember what it was like to go uninsured and pray that me or my family didn't get sick. A truly advanced nation that cares about it's people will find a way to make sure everyone's covered. I don't buy the "we can't afford it" argument either - we can afford to bail out banks and auto companies, why not help our citizens?
Actually they do.
Forgot to add..I think there are some good ideas on both sides, but getting the two to get together - "forget about it".
this is a subject which is important to me...so I read most of the threads related to reform. I have asked multiple times for suggestions, ideas, dreams about how we might reform our broken system. Unfortunately, it seems that those who are opposed to the current attempts at reform want only to allow our current system to repair itself...sort of a "let capitalism correct the market" sort of attitude. Of course, that is no reform at all, that is status quo...and increasing numbers of americans are no longer interested in the status quo...not in health care, not in politics, and not in our incumbent politicians.

Proof of facing jail time if you don’t buy health insurance ~ here are 3 links to video’s where jail times and penalties for NOT buying Obama care are discussed.

Kelly my dear the generation born between 1929 (The Great Depression) and 1945 (the end of WWII is NOT the Boomers. They were born between 1946 and 1963 or so. Very very different set of sociological circumstances. Do you think that it is advantageous to be born during a decreased or increased birth rate? this is not my personal theory about what some call the Golden Spooners. It is from sociology papers not the Bill O'Reilly show. BTW some Spooners are wonderful people generous of spirit but many are limited by their life experience and think anyone not as well of as they must stupid and lazy.
Sorry if you were somehow insulted but screaming and lying do not belong in any debate. Once again I am not insulting you I think you have just been misinformed by those very people.
No one is sent to jail. The Mitt Romney® plan from Massachussets is what inspired any mandatory section of the many bills floated so far and I don't beleive any of them include jail.
I hope you are less excitable when reading med orders.
Give us the name of the government medical plan on the reservations, please.
