VEEB LPN Program (info request)

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi All,

I'll be starting at VEEB in the Fall and was wondering if there are any current or past VEEB students that can give some info on this program.

What are the Teachers like?

What are the required books?

Is the program as intense as they say?

Do they have articulation agreements with other nursing (RN) programs? If so, with who?

Are there any disadvantages in taking the LPN course outside of a Community College setting?

Do they provide job Placement at the end???

Any information that ANYONE can provide will be GREATLY appreciated! I really want to have a full understanding of what I'm in for. I have 2 year old Twins and I am a little worried about whether or not I'll be able to juggle school/studying and Family!

Thank you so much to NY - MOM for your help!

Hi farroc...and everyone else! I finally got my letter...also a "hold" I had my letters of rec all ready to go...but they don't even want them! I was thinking about taking the TEAS test for BOCES but since it's so late I'm concerned I'm going to be in the same situation there...late test date=waitlist...

The bottom line, farroc, is you and I should have taken the test earlier :smackingf harsh but it's the truth! and we were told when I took the test that we probably would be on the wait list.

I heard if you are waitlist this year you automatically get in next year. Did anyone else hear that?

I'm not really sure how the wait list works, but keep your head up. I know it is frustrating, but you still have a good chance. Just think you could have gotten a letter saying we're sorry but you will have to wait until next year and reapply. You and many others are on a wait list, which is a good thing, because you never know what's going to happen. Not to discourage you but I believe with Boces you have to have at least 10th grade math. I have heard from my girlfriend that took it at Boces that the test is not that easy. However with diligent study you can pass anything. Stay positive, and be encouraged you, me and the others still have an opportunity to get in. Remember it ain't over until God says it's over!

Hey everyone Im actually new to this website but I actually wanted to get information on the program for veebs. I plan on starting in september 09 but a part of me actually feels nervous. I have no prior experience to nurse related courses so this whole thing is new to me. What I do know is that a main part of the success of the program involves LOTS AND LOTS of STUDYING. Being that I have no problem with that I'm not too worried about that. What's making me on the edge of my seat is the intensity of the program. Is working and going to school a good option? I'm in a situation where I may need money to help myself. Can anyone give me some advice I'd really appreciate it.

Hey RX dude I will also be starting in Sept and am nervous also,,,,have to take it one day at a time!

Hopefull and praise2u, I actually took and passed all the prerequisites for the RN program at NCC, but their program was way too competitive. I was trying to get some family situations in order before applying to VEEB, as their program is so demanding. That is why I tested so late, I picked up my application less than a week before their last test date.

Furthermore, I am a firm believer in synchronicity.

Before the time is never the time. After the time is never the time. But the time is always the time. In other words, things will happen when they are meant to happen. Things always fall in their right places (for me any way) and some things are just not meant to be. If this sept is the right time for me attend, so shall it be.

If I don't hear from VEEB soon I will go back to NCC and take the prerequisites for the other RN programs I have been looking into, like bio and chem. And maybe more psych (my fave), to insure that once I'm done w/ VEEB I can apply to any RN program, directly.

Good luck to you, farroc~wherever your path leads.

The reason for the lateness is not important...what is important is that you realize that the lateness is the reason weare on the waitlist..not because of the Bridge program or anything or anyone else.

I think you tested the same day I did. Remember we were told we would probably be on the waitlist...and we could go to the front of the room and get our money back if we weren't comfortable with that? They were right up front with us!

Regardless,I wish you luck and happiness in your education, profession and life.

Honestly the program from what I have heard is very intense. It all depends on your lifestyle and family obligations if you can work. When I spoke to the lady during the bridge program interview, she told me to work the weekends and save the weekdays for studying. I have to work as well, so I have decided to work on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at the nursing home. Or if I get a job in a group home. This way I can still study because it won't be as busy as the morning shift. Hope this helps you.

1st semester, working is definitely not an issue for a majority of people. The material is very simple and the topics aren't numerous in my opinion.

2nd semester, you can work but your schedule needs to be conducive to your study schedule. Especially if you have family responsibilities etc. I would suggest not working Mon-Thurs during classroom weeks. There's 4 subjects/semester at VEEB and currently I spend 2-6 hours reviewing the night before each exam. Once 2nd semester gets into gear, there's basically a test everyday and loads of material which can be ambiguous at times. 3rd is basically the same I hear.

Luckily clinicals are every other week and they serve as a nice break.

Just so you have an idea of my typical weekday during the classroom rotation; I get up at 6:30 and Im back home by 1:30 Then I have family responsiblities and lunch until around 4:30. I'll nap if possible til 6 and spend 1-2 hours preparing/eating dinner. The rest of the night I watch some shows and review my notes. Ideally I should be sleeping by 10 but I usually get 5.5-7 hours of sleep the day before non-test days and 0-4 hours before a test day. I'm self employed, so I work whenever I can fit it in, usually 6-10 hours/week.

Most of the time I just relax and party on weekends with no school related work since I get very little sleep during the classroom rotation. Currently running a 91 average this semester, so I guess its working for me.

At the end of the day though, work or no work its all up to the person.

Wow 91 average grindin! That's great!!!! Good for u!!! grindin do u have classmates with small children? Mines are 3 and 1 years old, so I'm wondering how its going for them.. Oh and also are u going to Helen fuld after veeb?

Hey grindin,, where are the clinicals held? I live 5 min away from Veeb so I am hoping I wont have to travel to far for clinicals,,,just wondered.

also grindin if u dont mind the questions,,,how long is each subject?(daily) any breaks in between? 5 hrs a day and 4 subjects..just wondered.
