VCU DNAP 2020 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone!

wanted to start a thread for ppl applying to VCU DNAP program starting January 2020, where we can all share our stats and talk through the application process! Goodluck to all ?

The primary site I applied for is Richmond and secondary is NOVA campus. My interview is on May 1st

Hello all,

My interview is May 1st and I am doing my best to prepare for the interview process. Someone said the test was comparable to the CCRN but easier, as someone who has not yet taken the CCRN can you please give me advice on what materials/systems to study? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and good luck to all:)

Eshontz,

I also interview May 1! Also wondering where to focus my studying. Someone told me years ago to go over icu basics for the quiz at the interview.

Hope to meet you tomorrow !

Good luck

VCU INTERVIEW QUESTIONS(old post from google).

"My interview consisted of the typical questions. Why do I want to be a CRNA? What have I done to prepare? Why this school? My work experience. Overall, it was pretty relaxed.

"Next I was asked about a random medication. It was essentially "wheel of fortune" with about 20 meds listed. It landed on vasopressin. They asked me what I knew about it. I discussed the indications, mechanism of action, doses, titration, and side effects. Other drugs on the list included: sedatives, narcotics, paralytics, inotropes, and vasopressors. Luckily for me, it didn't land on vecuronium, because at the time, I couldn't spent more than 4 seconds talking about it.

Then we went into 6 scenarios. I would be presented with a case and had to make decisions. Basically covered ACLS, EKG and ABG interpretation, ventilator settings, and pharmacology. If I requested an ABG, they would give me one and I had to interpret it and make another treatment decision. One case was a trauma, another cardiac arrest, a respiratory arrest, a drowning, an opioid overdose, and I can't remember the other"

For everyone interviewing tomorrow, let me ease your mind a bit! The process is very relaxed, they are not there to grill you or make you uncomfortable in the slightest. Good luck!

It seemed like the consensus today was that interviews went well. I can't wait to find out if I'm accepted!

That’s great! Congrats on evjg done! Did they say anything about when we might be notified? A current student told us as early as second week of May, but by June 1; however, I was wondering if any of the professors or Amanda said anything. Thank you!

They said by June 1st. I wish it were sooner!!!

I believe most people will hear next week based on last couple of years' postings. Some people will hear later after someone turn down the offer.

My daughter didn't have a good feeling after the interview. She said the questions were too easy. It's hard to make her answers standout.

Kudos to those of you that got interviewed. Best of luck on getting accepted. If I may ask, any tips in getting accepted into VCU or getting invited...is it mostly GRE or grades? If it is GRE, which score will you consider reasonable? I look forward to getting your inputs.

Thanks

Based on the info session prior to the interviews, vcu looks for candidates who would be exceptional leaders in the field. They do a lot of partnerships with lots of hospitals/organizations. Everyone I interviewed with had that extra something that made them stand out. I personally had lots of volunteer experience and have been on surgical mission trips. I also had 5 years of research experience prior to getting into nursing. Best advice I can give is to show them how you’re special. It sounds like you’re super driven, best of luck to you
