Hi everyone!
I wanted to start a topic for people applying to VCU's ABSN program this fall that starts Summer 2016. I've been reading the 2014 and 2015 threads and found them really helpful, especially reading other stats of students who had been accepted in the past.
I've already submitted my application, sent my SAT scores, sent my college transcript, and I'm just waiting on my references! I'm taking microbio at Emory University in Atlanta through their SON right now, and will be taking A&P 1 and 2 through their nursing school in the spring. Emory made these pre-req classes specifically for pre-health students and offers Anatomy as one class and Physiology as another to be taken together in one semester. I'm worried about taking both in the spring though and how it will look on my application though having them uncompleted currently!
I graduated from Virginia Tech in May with a degree in Business Management and currently work as a consultant. However, I've worked for a healthcare company for three years and also interned for another major children's hospital. My GPA is low... below a 3.0, which is one of my biggest fears (I hated business classes... but it was "practical"). All of the science/health classes I took are A's though. I'm also volunteering at Children's in Atlanta once a week in the ER along and their cancer center. My SAT score is 1280.
I'm also applying to Emory's program in Atlanta and thinking about applying to Bon Secour (not sure about that yet). I've also considered an associated program, but I'm worried about getting a job in Richmond with that degree!
Hoping to hear from past/current students and applicants about their stats and any advice for the application process!

Hi! I am also applying to VCU's ABSN program for the summer of 2016. I just got my personal statements/supplemental information in, and I just need my references as well.
I graduated from college in 2012 and was working as a marine biologist in Hawaii until the beginning of this year. I recently got married and my husband is in the military, so we moved to Virginia. Needless to say, being a marine biologist isn't very practical for life in the military, so I became an EMT, and decided to pursue nursing after that!
I'm really worried because I haven't had a chance to work in healthcare or even volunteer because we keep moving around so much! I'm really hoping that won't be the deciding factor for me. I have a 3.5 GPA from my bachelors, and will be finishing up my prereqs this fall, hopefully with all As. Does anybody else have the issue of no healthcare experience???
I'm also applying to Thomas Nelson Community College, with ODU's joint BSN online program. I really want to go to VCU, but I won't hear back from VCU until after classes start at TNCC - kind of a strange situation. Also, VCU is pretty expensive and its over an hour away from where I live! Hopefully, if I get in, there will be other students that live in the newport news area and will want to carpool.
I look forward to getting to know all of the other VCU hopefuls soon!

EMT is healthcare experience. Don't worry about lack of healthcare degree though. My cohort has prior degrees in alllll sorts of areas :)
Good luck!

Hi!
I'm thinking of applying to VCU as well. I'm going to be graduating from JMU with a degree in Health Sciences this December but I have already completed all of my pre-requisites. I have finished the application and sent my transcripts, but right now I'm trying to focus on the supplemental questions and my references. I also don't have very much healthcare experience (I volunteered at a local nursing home and for the Ability Olympics). My SAT scores and GPA are very average. It's really going to be a toss up if I get in so we will see. Are you applying to any other schools?

Hey everyone!
Man I can remember what it felt like to be in your shoes! I am in the accelerated program right now and reading all your posts makes me think....how in the world has a whole year gone by already?? I have to tell you - I'm in the second semester and I cannot begin to tell you how much I've already learned.
This is a wonderful program. Your cohort will become like family to you and all the faculty are great. If you get accepted, I encourage every single one of you to come to VCU!
If you have ANY questions at all, please let me know! I am a Student Ambassador for the program so I can answer a lot of questions regarding the application process!
Hope to hear from you all soon! TAKE A DEEP BREATH and be confident!

I submitted my application to VCU about a month ago. And I am going to apply to GMU as well. It is going to be a long wait until I find out next year.
By the way, I am also planning to get married next summer. Can someone please tell me if there is a summer break? I understand that the class begins in May 23 and I am hoping that there is a short break before fall semester starts. And if there is, I just need to know the time frame so I can set the date:speechless: Please help!
Thank you.
For this year, our break was from July 28th to about August 20th. It was about 3-4 weeks.
Hey guys!
I've finally submitted my application and I was wondering where you guys were looking to see if VCU has received your paperwork. I logged onto my VCU VIP page and I don't see anything. Also for the semester of start I put spring 2016, but I wasn't sure what to put since summer 2016 wasn't an option. TIA!

On the right-most portion of the VCU VIP page a little ways down there should be a heading called "Application status checklist." This shows what they have received and when they got it. There does seem to be a delay from when they have received something to when they update your page.
Is anyone else having a difficult time getting their SATs/ ACTs sent? I requested that mine be sent back in September and VCU still hasn't received them yet. I called both companies (because I took them both back in the day) and they say they are experiencing delays due to an extra high request volume this year.

I am graduating from the University of Florida in December (Go gators!) and I have applied to VCU's ABSN program.
I was just wondering if anyone knows admission statistics? Such as average GPA etc.
I am a little concerned that my GPA is a 2.89, will be a 3.0 after this semester. I am hoping they factor in the difficulty of my course load and classes due to the university I attend when evaluating my grades.
Can't wait until we finally start hearing back next year, it's going to be a long process.
Hey Aaron!
I had a few questions if you wouldn't mind sharing. Do you know the average GPA/volunteer experience of your admitted classmates?
