varicose veins in nurses

Published

hi, people! I just want to ask for help. aside from leg pain that we experience, we nurses are also prone to varicose veins because of long standing. I suspect that am developing varicose veins. other than wearing support stockings, exercise, increase water intake, leg raising as preventive measures, are there medical measures that will not prevent me from working as a nurse? please advice. am scared that one day, they will tell me to stop from working because my varicose is getting worse.thank you for taking your time in reading my concern.

GOD BLESS!

Ok now I am nervous. I have had vericose veins since as long as I can remember, probably middle school is when I became painfully aware of it. Kids kept asking me what happened. My legs swell horribly now even when I am cooking dinner. I have not started clinicals yet, so I have not had to stand for long periods of time yet. Would my primary be the one to do the doppler testing or would I have to go a specialist? I would like to have whatever needs to be done if anything before school starts. How long was the wait for the "stripping" if that needs to be done? AHHHH one more thing to worry about.

I guess everyone has different experiences with this. I tried saline injections first, doesn't work. When i went to the vascular surgeon, i had the surgery probably within a month? Can't really remember. The outcome was great, th eonly scarring i had was a tiny little light marking about 1/2 in long where they cut into my leg, behind the knees to pull out the veins...I had both legs done. Not sure why or if it really isn't reccomended any more, because I don't know of a better alternative! I don't regret it at all.

Get a consultation.

Good luck

thank you for your advice, i appreciate it so much. :lol2:

Try Birkenstocks too. I worked retail for 4 years, standing on my feet, pulling freight onto the sales floor for 8 hour days. Birkenstocks saved my legs and feet.

I'm having mine taken care of this summer, not by stripping, but by venous closure with heated device that kills the vein. Goodbye saphenous.

Hope it works, anybody tried it?

I am wondering if the pain I am having in my leg is a varicose vein? I really dont know what it is b/c I have never had a varicose vein before. I can just barely see a vein under the skin...it is not bulging or anything. But it aches! Like a dull crampy pain. It is getting worse, and it is also painful when I am resting. It is right in the popliteal area, now progressing up the back of my thigh. Does this sound like a varicose vein kind of pain??? I'm going to the doc tuesday.

for daytonite.

No, I do not know that doctor or what the trivex system is. I did find a website the other day that you might want to check out.

I'm a nurse aide and also a student nurse. I take butcher's broom and horsechestnut capsules for leg veins. Apple cider vinegar is also good. During my shift I usually drink two tablespoons of ACV with honey in a big glass of water. I also do yoga and some daily cardio.
